The 3/5 Compromise happened in 1787. It was during the Constitutional Convention from May 25-1787: to September 17-1787. The Constitutional Convention was a meeting of the states who were forming plans for the government. This was happening after the 13 colonies were just realized from British rule.

They held the 3/5 Compromise to count state and country populations. They were struggling with how to count slaves as part of the population. In the southern states, they had more slaves, so they wanted to count slaves to increase their representatives in the House of Representatives. However, the Northern states did not like the idea of this, because they saw slaves as property, not as individual people. In conclusion, they did this so they could figure out how to count the state's population with slaves.

The Three Fifths compromise was the resolving of the issue of the House of Representatives numbers for seats. The compromise was shown at the Constitutional Convention. The Constitutional Convention was a meeting of the states in which their delegates were making plans for the National government. Many debates happened for the plan between the large and small states. A major debate was on the issue of apportionment/distribution. The issue of distribution was of the House of Representatives seats which the seats are based on population. The people who had proposed the Three Fifths Compromise were James Wilson and Roger Sherman. The Three fifths compromise is that every five slaves are counted as three people for the apportionment of representation and taxes. The states that wanted the Three Fifths compromise were in the South because most of those states have lots of slaves. Of course in counterpart the North disagreed with this because they didn’t have many slaves which caused the Three Fifths Compromise. Though there are some parts about the Three Fifths Compromise that helped more of the Southern states for taxes. The more people/populations they count the more they get taxed. Though the southern states didn’t care too much about this because they wanted more House of Representatives seats. The importance of the compromise is that it can not be misread because the issue was not great. The issues were the apportionment, representation and slavery that almost had the convention destroyed. The Three Fifths compromise had resolved the percentage of the tax burden for each state. The Three Fifths Compromise was actually one of the reasons for the American Civil war that happened between the North and South. The Three Fifths Compromise was also included in the US Constitution.

The framers reached the slave trade compromise because they had to also slavery was a big problem for them. There a was a really big problem of slavery because it affected the people in the congressional representation.
