We would like to tell you about our school system.

Education in Italy is compulsory from 6 to 19 years of age, and is divided into five stages: Kindergarten, Primary school, First Grade secondary school, Second grade secondary school and University. Italy has a public and private education system.

Kindergarten includes children of age between 3 and 6 years old. In this school the children learn to relate to other children. 

After the Kindergarten, the children go to Primary school. It lasts five years. At the end of the Primary school, they go to  First Grade Secondary school; this school has got only three years. On the third year, the students have to pass  an exam,  for Second Grade Secondary school. 

The students, during the third year at First Grade Secondary school, have to choose a new school, because in Italy, we’ve got  various specializations for the Second Grade Secondary school. 

Any types of Second Grade Secondary school, that lasts five years grants access to the final exam called “School leaving exam”.

In Italy, we’ve got three types of Second Grade Secondary school: Lyceum, Technical Institute and Professional Institute.

The education received in a Lyceum is mostly theoretical than the education received in the other types of  school. There are three specialization: humanities, science and art.

The education received in a Technical Institute offers both a wide theoretical education and a specialization in a specific field of studies like economy, humanities, administration, technology and tourism.

The Professional Institute is oriented to get  a job, without the UNI. There are a lots of types of Professional Institutes like engineering, agriculture, gastronomy and technical assistance.

All students, have to do five years of Second Grade Secondary school before the final School leaving exam

During the years we have to do a lots of tests! The marks are from 1 to 10. At the end of all years, all students recieve a report card. Who has got any mark lower than 6, in one, two or three subjects, has to study during the summer holiday and retake a test  in September. If he/she pass, he/she continue with the following years;if she/he fails he/she has to repeat the same year.

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus after his death. According to historical records it is believed that after being crucified, Christ rose from the tomb and later returned to heaven along with his father, the Holy Ghost. . . the word Easter is derived from the Anglo-Saxons spring goddess named Eostre.

In Italy  most people are Catholic Christians  and they follow traditional Christian beliefs t Apart from Christmas, Easter is the most widely celebrated festival in Italy. Easter celebrations begin with Carnevale activities that take place 40 days earlier. These celebrations portray the traditional folklore of our  country. Some of the most well known carnevales take place in  Venice and Ivra and Cento, near BolognaThe attractive and important part of these carnevales is the masks that people wear. Citizens wear masks of different types, which represent s. During Easter the churches are decorated with olive branches instead of the usual palm fronds. Since Easter is the end of the Lent season, food plays an important role in the celebrations. Traditional Italian Easter meal includes lamb, special Easter breads, chocolate eggs etc.

In the Netherland we have a Liberation day.

That is the day that we were  liberated of the WWII by the allies.
