I was surprised because he mentioned America was never America to me
My opinions about this poem are that it shows the history of america because the poem says the history of from when it was colonized, when others (travelers) traveled there from the "old world"(Europe), along with the industrial revolution and America's issues with slavery & Indians.

I thought that it was sad and powerful at the same time because it showed the parts where he is confused on why people call it the land of the free and why people dream to be there, but in reality it has never been this way and people were either locked up, slaves, not paid, and killed for speaking out. Shows that "The American Dream" has never been what it is said to be and that it has never been perfect.

I liked how the poem emphasized how minority groups like slaves, workers, and indigenous people may feel because it showed how the foundation of "equality" for America was a lie. The poem shows the difference between the ideal American dream and the reality of American life. The United States in no way fulfills its promise of freedom and equality.
I enjoyed the repetition used in the poem, as it strengthened the authors tone to make his point. The people of the United States desire for America to be the dream they have always dreamed of.

I like how poem pointed out how minority groups feel about how America is. The poem explained how they worked hard, but dealt with discrimination and getting paid less. This relates to American history because it talks about discrimination and westward expansion. This poem relates to today because people are still dying because there are a specific race. The poem is saying "can't America become a place where everyone is free and completely equal."

1. Something that surprised me was the direction the poem written by Langston Hughes went in. The poem known as "Let America be America Again" allowed me to see a different point of view. It surprised me because I originally thought the poem would talk about issues, however this poem told a story that felt harshly real.
2. I believe a good question to ask the class to start a discussion about this is how they interpreted the poem. I say this because not everybody will interpret a set of lines the same way, some may understand the true meaning behind the poem meanwhile others may have a totally different view. Seeing how we interpret certain poems allow us to see what we can imagine from these words.

This quote to me means that America is very beautiful and that we should grateful.

"The free? who said free? Not me?" My opinion on this quote and America, in general, is that I don't think anyone is going to be free so we should all have our own opinions but still follow obvious rules.

1. I like the way the poem expressed the harsh reality of living in a discriminatory environment and or society throughout the years and these major events. I dislike that inequality still happens today and has become the norm, which I believe is disgusting.

2.A quote that stood out to me in the reading/poem was "I say it plain, America never was America to me." I think this stood out to me because not everyone sees america the same way because of the way we have been divided for our differences instead of put together. Groups of people are separated and discriminated against because of who they are which can make us live with fear or freely.
