I am spending so much time checking quotations and sources in my students' essays. Is there a way I can use AI to help me?

For online exams we use a lockdown browser, however my college does not allow us to require cameras, therefore what I have seen is that students basically Google answers, even with a time limit on the exam they are managing to do this. We have seen dramatic grade inflation in our courses. Last semester in my hybrid class (lecture online, lab in person) I gave one lecture exam in person during their lab time and the rest of the exams were online. The online exams averaged in the 90 percentile. The in person exam average was 68%! So it is quite obvious what is going on.

Pressure and competition

Well for my class (Microbiology) it is a required class for the nursing program and there are limited numbers of slots in nursing programs, so it is very competitive. My students always tell me "I need to get an A", the pressure and fear of not getting in to the program is definitely a factor of why they choose to cheat.
I also think that the younger generations are not learning how to learn or learning study skills. They have grown up with the internet and therefore are heavily reliant on Google.
