Laurel and Tom have failed to spread the word about the awful effects Solu had on the Extravagance cruise ship. The addicting sweetener has already been released across the country and people are already taking it. It is too late for the people taking the sweetener to stay sane and there is nothing they'll be able to do until the addicting chemical kicks in. There is no way to convince all of America to not take the sweeter that everyone has been talking about. It's just a matter of time before everyone goes insane.

The book Sweet by Emmy Laybourne is exactly like going into a haunted house because every turn you take there is always something scary and shocking. As you go farther into the haunted house it gets more suspenseful and more insane and you just want to finish it. In the book there was always something that shocked me and it made me want to get to end the end and find out what happens. Once you enter the haunted house or start reading the book it doesn't seem as bad until a scary person jumps at you. The book is filled with surprises and tough decisions. After going into a haunted house, it leaves you traumatized and after reading this book I definitely felt an impact.

Book Review from Booklist

Grades 8-11 Solu is a new sweetener that does double duty: it sweetens and helps people lose weight by shrinking fat cells. It’s the diet invention that could help solve the world’s obesity problem. To launch Solu, the makers have created an exclusive seven-day cruise, for which Laurel and her best friend, Viv, are part of the crew. Former child-star Tom Forelli is emceeing the cruise, offering the world an exclusive look at this wonder sweetener. As the cruise continues, both Laurel and Tom notice strange reactions and addictions forming in the passengers. Is Solu the miracle it’s promised to be or something more deadly? The tale is told in alternating chapters, and Tom and Laurel have their own reasons for not trying Solu. Combining mystery with a bit of romance and a peek into Hollywood’s obsession with being thin, Laybourne creates an interesting commentary on society ’s addiction to weight loss and diets. Although the real mystery and action take a while to pick up speed, the plot gains a nice momentum and will keep readers engaged. -- Thompson, Sarah Bean (Reviewed 04-15-2015) (Booklist, vol 111, number 16, p48)

I agree with this review because it explains what Tom and Laurel are dealing with along with the story behind the sweetener. It's also important to explain why the Solu sweetener was so important to the country. The review said that Solu was so popular because Hollywood pressures people to have perfect bodies. Once people found out that you can loose weight but eat whatever you want at the same time, they all went crazy and couldn't wait for it to be released. Tom and Laurel has other ideas and were two of the few people not to taking the sweetener on the ship. I also really like how the review relates society's problems with the book.

The point of view in the book Sweet by Emmy Laybourne is a 3rd person limited. The main characters are Tom and Laurel. Each chapter of the book is either Laurel or Tom's perspective. I really like how the author chose to write about two point of views because you are able to understand how the characters think and react to the same situations. Laurel and Tom have to figure out how to get off the ship showing the reader their different ideas on escaping.

In the book, There are parts where Laurel and Tom notice some things that aren't right on the cruise. Laurel's friend Viv starts to loose weight extremely fast after having food containing the Solu sweetener. Laurel realizes that Viv is almost addicted to the sweetener because she just can't get her hands off of it. Laurel's thoughts about Viv and other passengers show that later on in the book the passengers may turn into Solu addicts. Tom sees hows his manager Tamara can't get enough of Solu and he wonders if other people might be even more addicted than she is.
