The main way this is spread is through direct contact of respiratory droplets. Pneumonia can affect anyone but the people at the highest risk are children 2 years old or younger, adults who are age 65 years or older, people who smoke, people who have chronic diseases such as asthma or heart disease, people who have weakened or suppressed immune systems, or people who have been hospitalized. Symptoms of pneumonia may include chest pain when you breathe or cough, fatigue, cough, fever, sweating, shaking chills, lower normal body temperature, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, and confusion or changes in mental awareness in adults age 65 and older. There are many ways to help prevent pneumonia such as getting vaccinated, practicing good hygiene, not smoking, and keeping your immune system strong.
