The goal is to evaluate the current practices of inhaled sedation in the UK, specifically in units that have been established users for over a year. We believe that the insights gained from this survey will be invaluable to the wider intensive care community.

MPS III, known as Sanfilippo disease, is one of the mucopolysaccharide storage diseases. MPS III was first identified by Dr Sanfilippo in 1963 and includes four different types: A, B, C and D.

NICE has updated its adult sepsis guidance. The previous NG51 guideline has now been replaced for adults by NG253: Suspected sepsis in people aged 16 and over – recognition, assessment and early management.

Key updates include:

• Revised risk stratification criteria

• Updated recommendations on IV fluid management and vasopressor use

• Strengthened antimicrobial stewardship principles

• Improved guidance for patients with communication needs and in mental health settings

Our Trust adult sepsis pathway and supporting documentation have been updated in line with NG253 and are now available to print from Q-PULSE on the intranet [https://qpulse.medway.nhs.uk/QPulseDocumentServiceCorporateLive/Documents.svc/documents/active/attachment?number=THAN-FOR-41].

From 25 February, the updated Sepsis Toolkits and Sepsis 6 bundles (attached) will be available within EPR, replacing previous versions currently in use.

Further communications, including additional guidance and supporting information, will be shared in the coming week.

All clinical teams are asked to familiarise themselves with the revised pathway and ensure local practice reflects these changes. 

While non-dihydropyridine CCB (e.g., verapamil, diltiazem) are typically associated with cardiac effects and dihydropyridine CCB (e.g., amlodipine, nimodipine) are associated with vascular effects, this selectivity may be lost when ingested in high doses and both cardiac and vascular effects can occur with all agents.............................
