My current occupation is Project Coordinator for an Electrical company. I am working towards my counseling credential with the intent to find a position at a school. This is my 5th semester at Pacific Oaks, I was supposed to graduate at the end of summer, but now due to availability of classes, I have wait until December, but I am staying positive. The finish line is close, and that is driving me. I enjoy working and being around the youth in our community. I have been working directly with youth for nearly 11 years already, and have decided that it was time to make it my profession. I have ran multiple after school programs, and coach numerous youth sports teams, and enjoy the relationships I have made along the way. Every kid that is willing to work deserves an opportunity. My goal is to give them that opportunity. 
An article that I have read and has really made the most impact on my position as a coach is one that is written by an NBA player, talking about going through tough times, and even though it may seem like he has everything, he still faces trouble.  It really is something that you don’t think much about.  I like to share it with the kids so they can see, no matter who you are, or where your from, you still can have a tough time, it just takes practice and time to move past it.

I think it's something that I should have done years ago. Being a basketball coach, having this new skill set will be something that I can use. When thinking about the way the kids take the information that we give them, to make the right decision in a game would be a reason that I would like to know what they are thinking, or why. I would like to know if a kid is capable of making that correct decision based on his ability to read the situation. I also would value this aspect, because kids now deal with so much, and being able to help them through a situation, I would say about 80% of the kids we coach go through something that will affect their mindset in a season, from death, parents splitting up, friends using drugs, or the big one the opposite sex, and puberty. I found an article that I really liked and I thought it was really close to this class. He was pretty successful, but it just shows you that everyone is struggling, and even professional athletes, I shared it with the kids on my team just about 3 weeks ago, especially with the things we are all experiencing right now, I thought they should read it. The kids need to see we are all like a family and we can be there to support one another.  We see each other for about 3 hours a day, 6 days a week from Labor Day to March with play-offs.  It is more than I see my family some times in season.  My wife and kids love me coaching, and come to a lot of the games and the boys really get close with my whole family.  I may not have a biological son, but I know I have more "kids" than I can count.
