1. Socialization is when people interact with each other.
2. When someone is taken or forced out of a society, they are desocialized.
3. When someone is brought back into a society, they have to learn costumes and ideas again, this is called resocialization.
4. In the movie Castaway, the main character is in a plane wreck and forced to life on an island alone. As a way to keep part of his sanity, he ends up talking to a volleyball with a bloody hand print on it that he named Wilson. The effects of being away from any other human is show when he is rescued and he know has to live life the way he used to, which he is shown to struggle with.
5. When a child is not socialized with people, it is possible they will socialize with animals. This causes them to act more like animals than as people.
6. Some of the founders of socialization are Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, Jane Addams
7. Auguste Comte is considered the father of sociology
8. A society as a whole can be very diverse in ideas and people, but a certain part of the society can be dominant of one aspect.
9. In order to fully understand why humans do things a certain way, Sociologist must the general in the particular and the strange in the familiar.

Culture

1. Culture is the knowledge, language, values, customs, and physical objects that are passed from generation to generation among members of a group.
2. The behavior of a person depends on the society that they grew up in.
3. Culture varies from Country to country. An example being, in Japan, seafood is eaten more often than in a place like America.
4. Culture can differ drastically not just from country to country but also from as close as town to town.
5. In the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, it shows how important heritage is to growing up.Because Because, Toulas family took pride in their nationality, she grew up with a lot of family traditions that made her family different from everybody else's.
6. At first in the movie, Toula was constantly being pushed to get married so that she could start her own big family just like everyone else. Then when she got engaged but not to a Greek boy, her family got mad at her because she was changing how things in her family were done. It wasn't until Ian agreed to have a Greek wedding, that Toulas family approved of him.
7. The culture one grows up in can determine what kind of people they like and don't like. In american culture, it was thought of for a long time that African Americans were below white people. It wasn't until the 60's that they were thought of as equals, but even now there are still people who will not like someone because they have a different skin color.
8. Culture and instinct are very close but also very different. Culture is the main factor in how a person acts but if a child were to be raised outside of a society with no other humans, they would tend to act more based on instinct rather than moral values. A woman from Ukraine named Oxana Malaya was raised by dogs rather than people, so she tends to act more like them and tends to act more on what will keep her alive rather than what she believes to be right or wrong.

 1. In the 1950's women were expected to get married very quickly and to prioritize their husband needs over their own
2. Women were also expected to be satisfied with being married, having children, and staying at home working.
3. In Mona Lisa Smile, Katherine, an unmarried woman at least 30 years old. She is constantly questioned about why she isn't married and she responds with she wasn't ready yet. She also, in return, questions why all the female students are so set on getting married young. This movie shows how much the expectations on women have come and how important it is for women to do what they want even if it goes against what society says they should do.
4. In the year 1964, Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique as a way to show that not all women were satisfied with the life they've been conditioned to want.
5. Despite all the positives that where brought with The Feminine Mystique, there were many women who were satisfied with their lives as house wives, and they felt personally attacked by the book.
6. Weeks v Southern Bell was an important case that showed the unfairness women had to face in the work place. When Weeks was denied a higher paying job because it was reserved for a man, she sued the Company for violating the 1964 Civil Rights act.
7. After the civil rights laws were passed, women were able to obtain more opportunities than before. When Title IX was passed in 1972, women were able to take part in after school sports, that they previously had been excluded from.
8. Hidden Figures is a movie that shows the story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson and the important work they did at NASA, despite working at a time when they were not encouraged to succeed. It shows them doing more than what anyone thought possible, and making advancement for not just themselves but for all people of color.

Socialization, culture, and women's roles in society are all closely tied together. Socialization is the cultural process of learning to participate in group life. By participating in group life, certain aspects are considered by the group good and others bad,how the group sees certain aspects becomes culture. The way the group lives determines the roles on women in the group and whether the way they are treated should be changed or not.
