My name is Lamis Kabalaoui I'm from Sao paulo , Brazil and I have lived in austin for two years now . I'm currently a kinesiology major trying to be a physical therapist. I speak both english and Portuguese fluently . I moved to Bahrain when i was 10 a small island close to Dubai and spent the rest of my middle and high school there until moving to austin. I have been to France , Switzerland, Holland , England, Turkey , Russia , Bahamas , Jamaica , Mexico Dubai ,Bahrain ,Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Singapore . My favorite hobby is designing and decorating homes . I can understand a little french because i went to a french school for four years. I hope to gain a better understanding of different cultures and why certain cultures act or behave differently to what my culture does.

i chose those 4 pictures because i think it really shows how in different cultures, what is seen as wrong in our eyes is normal in theirs. Saudi Arabia has rules set strictley from the rules of their religion. It is prohibited to order food or be in public as a couple. Men and women must order their food seperatly unless they are dining as a family. Women have little to no righthand there are certain areas women are not allowed to enter at all. I also chose the Brazilian hand gesture picture because a simple hand gesture could seriously offend some one from another culture. And okay sign in america means something different and offensive in the Brazilian culture. The picture with a soccer players jersey represents how , his mother saw the name "michael" in english but in Brazil it pronounced different so different that she spelled it "maicon".

Introduction:

The stereo type of Brazilians is that its the country of Brazil is the country of samba, soccer and beaches. A lot of people see us as a high context culture because many Brazilians are not blunt enough for low context cultures. Many outsiders think that because we are friendly and hug and kiss people when we greet one another to because we wear small bikinis that Brazilian women are easy.

Declaration:

The culture conflict that is discussed here is the differences between high context and low context between Brazil and the rest of the world. Many cultures see Brazilian as invasive or too open instead of being more reserved and acknowledge personal space.

Analysis:

Cultural differences is so important when going to a new country. many cultures are being exposed to different ones because so many individuals are willing to travel but many are not prepared and might be offended by the cultures in other countries. High and low context plays a huge role in every aspect especially when communicating with one another. Brazilians are willing to help and are a high context culture.

Universalism vs Particularism

Universalism is a system where there are rigid rules where everyone must abide by. There is a sense of following the system . They are stern and expect everyone to follow their beliefs and values as to what is seen as right and wrong. This allows freedom but there is also consequences with this. Particularism is more flexible and has leniency to different situation. IT focuses on the uniqueness of the individuals and works round the individuals where as universalism the people follow the system. Particularism gives more chances and tries to understand the people.

This is a good example of objectivity they have an objective to buy their items and leave an if you have less items you have priority and can stand in a shorter line because their objective is to be time efficient and don't see anything else in the way .

This is an example of the importance of time and how blunt the specific cultures are. It is straight to the point with no ambiguity . This describes their importance with punctuality versus other countries time and punctuality is not an issue not considered part of the culture. There is a rigid system to follow in specific cultures. "my word is my band" sticking to the rules with no exceptions no mix in between the level of a student and a professor.
The professor comes in taught what is need to be taught students listen and there isn't really much of a relation apart from that.
