The senator of Massachusetts Charles Summer stirred up some suspicion that Stephen Douglas deliberately planned Kansas to be a slave state. The suspicion that Charles Summer angered many Southerners making them burst into violence. After, Preston Brooks, South Carolina’s representative, beat Summers harshly with his cane, so harsh Summer was unconscious and bleeding!
