Web Evolution - Web 3.0 (Semantic Web)

What is Web. 3.0?

Web 3.0 does not seem to have a clear definition of what it is, but rather explanations of what it does. It has been explained as a database where data is enhanced rather than just stored information. The Semantic Web improves the web technologies of searching and analyzing the data and being able to comprehend rather than using keywords or numbers. Web 3.0 also can be defined as the creation of artificial intelligence, 3D graphics, and mobility. Web 3.0 can be portable through your personal devices like a cellphone or tablet and be used anywhere.

Web 2.0 vs. Web 3.0

Web 2.0 and 3.0 are similar, but the execution is different. Web 2.0 was the creation of using data and surfing websites which allowed users to do more. Web 2.0 is predetermined data while Web 3.0 is enhanced, using the context of the user to provide better results.
A good example to see the difference of the two would be the way a search engine can narrow down a search result. If a user is researching a type of insect and they only use one word, the search result can be anything that uses that word even if the result is not what the user is looking for. When using 3.0 the user can be researching types of insects and while they use limited wording, the database will understand the context that the user is doing and provide search results that pertain to the specific insect that the user is researching. Rather than only using keywords, 3.0 will make the results more accurate.

Web 3.0 for Education

While most of the other versions of the web were there to revolutionize the creations and create platforms for users to explore, Web 3.0 is an enhanced version of the last. Students and educators can take advantage of AI technology within the classroom whether its from their tablet or phones to virtual exploration of a new country within their classrooms. Research has expanded and is available more so than ever. Projects can be expected to be advance considering there are so many tools provided.

What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 was the turning point where users can finally be creators and share. Participation and social interactions are available. You were able to create and share your experiences or learned information to others. User interaction was a big change from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0. Search engines were becoming more advance and keywords narrowed down topics allowing the user find what they were looking for in a more intelligent way than previously. Some of the best Web 2.0 creations was YouTube, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Wikipedia.

Web 2.0 for Education

The examples that are listed for the Web 2.0 are podcasting, blogging, posting to social media, and tagging. Using the internet is was a great way to explore more on a topic. Many can use the web and its many platforms to increase a dynamic classroom learning environment that is also more than just learning from a textbook such as the video posted below. Engaging students with the use of technology can help increase different learning techniques and capabilities. Students were able to watch videos that other educators created and explore other related topics. Teachers can go online and search for an educational website that would explain the lecture or topic in the classroom in a better, fun, and interactive way.
