Despite my anxiousness, I was tasked late last year with something that was out of my specialisation - Project Management. It was a request I had raised with my manager earlier during our 1-to-1 sessions as I wanted to hone my skills which she confidently delegated to me thereafter. As I was always involved in the later stages of planning, I possessed minimal skills and knowledge. I was overwhelmed at first when I did not know what to do. Later part, I realised that the key was to break down each step and to segment out my priorities so that I could branch out the solutions and steps to proceed from there. Using a step-by-step approach would better organise my tasks and hence a clearer view of what needs to be done.

user.99@shopee.com

Translation tracker

As a fresh translator at Shopee Poland, I was at loss for how to remember about all my translation tasks. E-mail correspondence was not enough, as the number of mails per day made all requests for translation lost and I used to forget what was to be done every now and done. Finally, I came up with a Translation Tracker - a simple Google sheet, to which I gave access to my Team colleagues and where they could insert documents which required translation or proofreading. Now, thanks to these 3 separate columns (one for translating, one for proofreading and one for uploading translated documents) I no longer have trouble remembering about things to do.
Iza Gosk
izabela.gosk@shopee.com

The first experiences of being a Buddy

My story is kinda short and maybe common, but meaningful to me. After a few months in Shopee Polska I was "challenged" to be the Buddy for the very first time in my life! :) This was a completely new thing that I had to face, and which was much cooler than I expected! Not only did I feel a genuine need to look after a new person at work, but I also builded a great friendship and felt more in my place with my work and duties. I was wondering if I would be able to bring someone into the team and share knowledge well, but I did it for sure (also thanks to HR Buddy Sessions!), and I learned how to organize my work even better. :)

Problem solving in an effective manner

During my first weeks at Shopee, I was overwhelmed with many important spreadsheets shared with me. Daily I fulfilled many tabs and I had to operate between them to be up to date with all of them. I was taking a lot of time to fulfill and check all shared data and my work was not effective at all. To simplify my daily workload and be more effective I've created special spreadsheet, which merged all data from others folders. Thanks to that I could easily check all my clients results and spend more time to help them on the daily basis instead of looking some information between many tabs. To achieve that I used importrange and index match formula.

@: karol.dudek@shopee.com

I was one of the first HR employees that joined Shopee in Poland and at the beginning it was very tough. We did not have any internal recruitment process or efficient system/Excel to track the candidates. There were a lot of headcounts to fill within every area and my domain is marketing and business development. After briefing with managers we set up our priorities and most urgent headcounts to fill. We started actively recruiting and we managed to overcome the issue of reporting and high volume of headcounts by teamwork and additional help from our global team in Singapore so now we are happy to have more than 300 people on board since October. The photo below was taken in September for our Cross Border Launch Celebration 😊

The importance of being flexible, open-minded and ready to adjust

I was one of the first people, lucky and happy to join Shopee at the very beginning, just a few weeks before the official launch of the Polish market as well as French and Spanish. I remember my thoughts and the feeling of excitement. I remember that I was the first employee in my team waiting for my manager to come in next weeks. And most clearly remember the scope of my responsibilities which changed hundreds of times from Sep last year till now.
Obviously sometimes I felt lost in duties, sometimes was happy that overcome topic completely new for me, sometimes stressed cuz scope was unknown and hard to manage but after all those months I feel gratitude that I had so big exposure on e-commerce market, Shopee business and the most, that because of this wide scope I had a pleasure to meet so many people in many teams. At least now I am able to indicate responsibilities of each team whether it is BD team or Mkt team or CX team. I learnt that in this business tangible, hard skills like programming have the same value as being open-minded, flexible and always curious.
Its a pleasure to see how many processes we have established since then. That we work in a much structured way. That we even start to document our findings and share our knowledge.
This time I did not pointed any specific tool, I wanted to gather your attention that proper attitude is as important as "Excel"

Greetings from Product Management Team
@: marlena.rochminska@shopee.com
