A massive undersea earthquake stuck off the west coast of North Sumatra Indonesia. The magnitude was 9.1-9.3, making the board for one of the largest recorded earthquakes in history.

Tsuami waves began to form and spread across the Indian Ocean. The waves traveled at speeds of up to 500 MPH.

At 9:00 AM the tsunami hits Thailand and Sri Lanka.

The tsunami floods the low lying atolls and causes major damage. The Maldives made up of 1,190 islands saw massive destruction but had a lower death toll because of its smaller population and higher ground available to refuge at.

At 1:00 pm the waves reach East Africa.
