1st Blog over It's Not summer without you

I chose to read It's not summer without you because about a year ago I went to Teen book con and I met the author of the book I chose to read, Its Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han. She discussed what her stories were about and I was immediately intrigued. I chose this book from her other books because I find romance novels quite interesting because they often discuss how two people who can be completely different are able to push there differences aside in the name of love, or when certain events bring two people together in a way they never thought they could. What I like about my book so far is that the protagonist, Belly, went through a tremendous amount of heartbreak, and the way she is dealing with it is very well written. The feelings she feels and the way she is acting is described so perfectly that I feel like I can fully understand what she is going through. For example, after she lost Beck, basically her second mother, she was constantly upset and was often depressed. I really admire the way Jenny Han writes her emotions and feeling. I also admire how in my book Jenny Han describes Belly's first love, Conrad as a boy who instead of being the typical jock and high school sweetheart, hes more aloof and he tends to be the exact opposite of Belly. I also admire how Belly's character is one who wont give up. For instance, when Belly and Conrad broke up Conrad completely stopped talking to Belly but Belly still wanted to be there for him even when he didn't want her around. She even went searching for him when he disappeared for a while. This book is different from ones I've read because most books I've read don't really depict a couple like Belly and Conrad, who not only have a big age difference, but they have the kind of relationship where even if they don't end up together as a couple, they still were childhood friends so they still have a very close relationship

I finished was reading It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han, and my first thought was ‘Wow what just happened.’ The book ended on a cliff hanger and frankly it was not what I had expected at all. I have so many questions as to what is to happen in Belly, the protagonists, life. Compared to the first book in this series, you can really see a change in Belly’s character from book one to book two. Belly becomes more mature and more serious in It’s Not Summer Without You, because she deals with the death of someone very close to her. In the first book The Summer I Turned Pretty Belly is more concerned about herself and her wild love life other than most things. Compared to other romance novels Belly’s character is very different because she isn’t like most girls who in certain situations won’t admit they’ve made a mistake or that their not cut out for something. When Belly was faced with a situation she knew she couldn’t face by herself she wasn’t afraid to ask for help or to admit that she couldn’t do it on her own. Belly’s character is different because at the tender age of seventeen she knew exactly how she felt about Conrad, she knew she was in love with him and she displayed the utmost maturity when she realized he didn’t love her back so she had to let him go. The good parts of this book, or the ones I enjoyed the most were the parts when Belly was thinking about how to face certain people because it really showed how she thinks and why she thinks a certain way. There were no part of the book that I didn’t enjoy the book was very intriguing. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading romance novels but enjoy a non-cliché story where the protagonist doesn’t make impulsive decisions.

I chose the book Message in a bottle By Nicholas Sparks because I really admired the film based on his book The Notebook. I chose this book because as I read the blurb i realized that this book is a bit more mature than the other books I have read, its not about teenagers or college students it is based on the life of an young single mother who is missing love from her life. I think this book will be about this girl, Theresa who finds this message in a bottle and decided to write an article over it, because she is a journalist. I think that once she does this the article will become very popular and people will want to know where she found it or if she knows the person who wrote. I'm still unsure of how this letter will "change her life." as said in the blurb of the book. I'm assuming she will become quiet popular because of this and soon people might send her their own letters or personal stories about their significant others. Based on the cover I'm sure this book is about a message in a bottle showing up to a beach, but its written by someone who is sailing the seas. I feel this book will be challenging because its more for adults than for teenagers, so I wont really be able to understand how the characters are feeling in certain situations. This book is different from ones I've read because I usually read book that are young adult novels.

While reading the book, Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks I find interesting how Theresa decided to seek out Garret, the writer of the letters. Judging by her personality she seems as if she would be awkward or uncomfortable flirting with guys, but when Theresa meets Garret she seems very comfortable with him and she seems at ease which I did not expect at a first-time meeting. Something that is keeping me interested is Garret’s interest in Theresa. Garret is starting to find Theresa interesting and is attracted to her. I am interested to see how he puts his guilt about Catherine aside, to start something with Theresa. Something strange that I found in my book was that how Theresa decided to go find Garret and take on his offer to go sailing with him. Since Theresa is a hesitant person I would have expected her to decline because she doesn’t really know Garret, let alone if he can be trusted. I was unsure about this because it didn’t really seem like a realistic situation. I don’t believe that anyone would just go out sailing with someone they’d just met. I was a bit confused because it was out of character for Theresa to do something like that. Something reckless and risky. Though I found it intriguing because it really shows how far she is willing to go to get to know Garret and to see if they can become something more. I feel like Theresa’s decision to go sailing with Garret will impact the rest of the story by them becoming more interested in each other. I feel like they would get to know certain things about each other, and decide that they should continue seeing each other. That way maybe they’ll become more than friends.

In the book, Message in a bottle by Nicholas Sparks I came up with a myriad of inferences as to what will happen next in the story line. As of right now, in the story Theresa and Garrett have met and shown a lot of interests in each other, so because of this I very strongly, believe that Theresa and Garrett will soon make things official and become a couple. Though as of right now Theresa hasn't mentioned anything to Garrett about seeing the letters that he wrote to Catherine. I believe that this will cause a problem in there relationship, because it is a big secret that she is keeping, and it brings on the issue of honesty. I believe that this will be a problem because I have read many books where the girl kept a secret from the guy and things didn't end up to well for the both of them. I'm hoping that towards the end of the story we see these two coming together as one. One conclusion that I can draw from the book is that I have a strong feeling that Theresa's son, Kevin will get along very well with Garrett. I believe this because Kevin' character is shown as a sweet and loving young boy, and i feel that since he accepted his father's wife, he will be able to do so for Garrett. I believe that throughout the book Theresa will have her doubts about her relationship with Garrett because she's been single for a very long time and might not know if she is doing the right thing.

I chose the book A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena because judging by the title it seemed like a book that discussed a common misconception about women. Based on the blurb I think this book will be about a young girl who has passed away and was found dead with another man next to her, but no one knows her story. I think the book will discuss certain aspects of her life through her past actions such as letters she wrote or the people she talked to before dying. This book appeals to me because it is written in the point of view of Zarin and Porus who are both dead. I find oddly interesting because I've never read a book that was narrated by dead protagonists. This book is very different from books I've read because it takes on real world issues. Based on the cover of this book, I believe this book will focus more on how people view Zarin for being found with a boy rather than Porus being found with a girl. I believe this because the book is set in Saudi Arabia where you can get in trouble for being in public with a guy that is not related to you in any way. Most of the time I read books on teen romance and whatnot, but this time I will be reading a book about something that I believe is very important. I don't believe this book will be challenging because it is a young adult book and i have read many young adult novels with no problems so I do not believe this book will be too difficult.

I am currently reading the book, A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena. This book is keeping me interested because it really shines a light on the way that a person can react when they've been judged throughout their life. The protagonist, Zarin, is described as a quiet, curious young girl who wants to be accepted. She lives in Saudia Arabia, with her Masi (Aunt) and is constantly thought as a disgrace, cause she was born out of wedlock. Her Masi is constantly telling her how to act around people. I find this very interesting because I think that Zarin acts out because of her Masi. She is treated as if she doesn't belong, in her school and I think that also is another reason why she acts out. I find it interesting how this book is told from many point of views. Porus is Zarin's closest friend and he just so happens to be in the accident with Zarin. I feel that by reading Porus's point of view on the story we will be able to learn more about Zarin, and how she is viewed by her friend. Then another part of the story is told by Mishal, a girl who happens to be someone who has always gone head to head with Zarin academically. By reading her point of the story we see how the people she went went to school with, (her classmates, and piers) view her and how they feel about her. I find this very interesting because this helps us see how and why people came up with different stories about why she was found with Porus.

Currently, I am reading A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena. As of right now, I think that as the story progresses we will see Zarin start to develop feelings for Porus, but she wont realize it. I think that since she is always telling him that she doesn't like him as more than a friend, one day she might realize that he isn't like the guys she's dated before and that maybe something could happen between them. As for Porus I think he will soon understand more about why Zarin acts the way she does. Since this story is written from multiple perspectives I think that as we learn more about each character we would learn that they too aren't perfect, so they can't be pointing fingers at Zarin for being found with a boy. I think this will happen because as everyone's personality is reveled we learn about their individual dark sides that derived from the same pain Zarin felt throughout her life. From abandonment, and lack of affection. I am hoping that everyone in the community that knew Zarin and Porus will come to realize that just because a boy and girl were found in a car together doesn't mean they were necessarily doing something wrong, and even if they were it doesn't mean the girl should be blamed. This book is reshaping my thoughts of the society we live in because it really shows how easy it is to wrongly blame a woman in some parts of the world. This book also discusses how people tend to think that women have to act a certain way but men can do whatever they please. I think this is something Bhathena does a great job pointing out throughout this story.

The book A Girl Like That Tanaz Bhathena fits in our society today, in many ways. Even today in Saudi Arabia Women are often the subject of every conversation when they do something that the culture doesn't approve of.This idea is displayed throughout this book through the life of Zarin Wadia. Zarin is treated as is she was out of place and didn't belong just because she was born out of wedlock. This still happens in some parts of the world especially Saudi Arabia, because of how the culture of the country is. In this story we see that in Saudi Arabia, often times the teenage boys use religion to justify their rights, but the women's rights are often times overlooked. In the story we see that this happens because of the culture of Saudi Arabia. This is still the case. Due to the culture of Saudi Arabia we see that women's right's are still overlooked. Just recently women were given the right to drive in the country of Saudi Arabia. Which relates to this book because often times when Zarin needs to clear her head she calls her friend Porus to drive her around the area for a while. She isn't allowed to drive herself so she is dependent on Porus to take her places. If this ban on women's driving was lifted during the time of this story then we would see Zarin as a more independent person. The larger lesson that this book discusses is that appearances don't give the full story, because throughout this book Zarin is judged by who she is seen with or what she is seen doing.

The book A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena is a story based in the country of Saudi Arabia. This story shows a myriad of people each with individual beliefs. This stories takes on many controversial topics such as underage sex and rape. These topics clash with many beliefs that are displayed throughout this book. I feel that Bhathena wrote this exact story to shine light on the things we don't normally see in society. Such as how making a rape drug was such a simple task that a teenager figured out how to do it. This book also discusses how we can't judge one another and that we should take a long look at ourselves before pointing our finger at another. I feel that this book is a very important piece of writing because not only does it tell us about these issues but it shows us what the outcomes of these actions are and how they can truly hurt someone. In our society today, we don't think that these things happen as often as they do but the book A Girl Like That shows us just how often these things happen. Bhathena also writes how one can spot the warning signs when it comes to depression and trauma. Tanaz Bhathena writes characters each with their own problems whom we feel that we can relate to. Then she takes them and shows us how they react in certain situations to help us see what to do and what not to do in certain situations or when dealing with certain relationships.

The book that I have chosen to read is, Just listen by Sarah Dessen. I chose this book because recently over the summer I read a book that was written by the same author and I really enjoyed it. As of right now i have only read the blurb, so judging by that i think this book will be about Young Annabel Greene, who is a model is tired from plastering a fake smile her whole life. I think that this book will be about her navigating through life and finally realizing whats important. For example, relationships with her friends, family, and the people she works with. This book appealed to me because its based on a young teenager who learns things about friendship that most of us don't know at this age. Such as, who to trust with your secrets and who really want the best for you. Based on the title and the cover of the book I think this book will be about a young girl whose lived her life by everyone rules, but she's tired of it and finally wants to be heard. This book is similar to books that I have read because i have read books that have a strong female lead, who is seen learning more about her life as the story progresses. I don't believe that this book will be challenging, because as mentioned earlier, I have read another one of Sarah Dessen's novels and I didn't find it challenging at all.

The book that I have chosen to read is, "The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold" (I abandoned "Just listen" by Sarah Dessen.) This book has emotionally affected me in many ways. From seeing how Susie's parents are dealing with her death, to hearing about how her younger brother believes that he can still see her. As of right now I think Susie is going to watch how everyone she loved is struggling to move on with her murderer still on the loose. I feel that she will learn more about the personalities of each person in her family as she watches how they grieve her death. For instance, her father is suspicious of Mr Harvey, the man who actually murdered Susie. He is now hellbent on bringing him to justice and making him pay for his daughter's murder. His determination to find some dirt on Mr. Harvey shows that he is a very stubborn and vengeful person. I also believe that Susie wont find peace in her heaven because Mr. Harvey hasn't been caught yet. I think this because every time Susie watches the people she loves she is often sad, and we see her waiting for someone to realize that Mr. Harvey is the main suspect in this case. I feel that once everyone realizes that Mr Harvey is the man who killed Susie and he pays the consequences for it, Susie will finally find peace in her heaven and accept that she won't be with her family anymore because she has moved on in Heaven.

"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold is very similar to the television series, "13 Reasons Why." This is because in "13 Reasons Why" we see the life of Hannah Baker's family and friends after her death, and how they are struggling to cope the loss of the young girl. In "The Lovely Bones" we see something similar. We see Susie Salmon's family struggle to accept that their fourteen year old daughter has left them. In both the book, and television series we see Hannah and Susie's point of view before they died and what they went through leading up to their death. many characters between these two forms of art are similar to each other. Such as, Hannah's friend, Clay, and Susie's dad. Both of these characters have the hardest time accepting death, which is a constant theme throughout both the book, and TV show. Both of these characters struggle the most throughout the book because they keep thinking "what if." This causes them to struggle to move past the fact that the girls' they loved are no longer around. The theme of moving past death of a loved one is expressed in both forms or art because we see each character grow and move past the tragedy they've faced. We see the the mother of both Hannah, and Susie, slowly become distant with others and find their own way to cope. The differences are that unlike Hannah, Susie had two other siblings, a younger brother and a younger sister.
