         <description><![CDATA[<p>It works both ways. Scientists use their research and empirical work, professional views, and integrity, so they can help define what's considered acceptable within the natural science field. However, societal values, cultural norms, and public opinion usually have a bigger influence on those ethical standards. </p><p>For example, recently, the public's opinion and concern about climate change have caused to adding of regulations (making it stricter too) and ethical guidelines that scientists must listen to. </p><p>Sources: Iaccarino, M.          <description><![CDATA[<p>There isn't a specific standard for methods in scientific progress, it can use many techniques, and different science fields can also have different approaches. </p><p>For example, in biology, scientists might use the scientific method to test a hypothesis about mesocosm by conducting controlled experiments with different light conditions. On the other hand, an astronomer studying distant galaxies would analyze existing data from telescopes without performing direct experiments because it's space. </p><p>Sources: Ellerton, P. To decide what assumptions to make, we need to think about what we already know about the problem. We look at the data to see if we can find any patterns or connections. Then we can figure out what we want the model to do and how simple or complex it needs to be. Then we can try to simplify the problem by focusing on the most important things. For example when a ball is thrown up and comes back down to Earth, there is a scientific assumption that something is causing it to come back down, which we define today as the gravitational force of the Earth.          <description><![CDATA[<p>In order to figure out which model is appropriate to explain a certain natural phenomenon, it is crucial to determine what the model will be used for. If the model is being used to educate, a more simplistic approach might be more applicable, while if the model is being used in extensive and thorough scientific research, a more detailed and complex model might be more appropriate.          <description><![CDATA[<p>The assumptions to make when constructing a model likely has to do with how certain we are about different aspects of the thing we are modelling. If we are completely sure that, for example, an atom has protons and neutrons in its nucleus, we can formulate a model of the atom that way. If the model of the solar system is to be taught in schools to elementary schoolers, it will be best to use and explain a more basic model that can define and explain the bare fundamentals.
