Our topic is relationship between Glasgow people and soil. Things like relationship are hard to make sense of, let alone present to others visually.

However, we figured out a suitable way to deconstruct the relationship from two aspects which are physical and spiritual. 

In the final mapping artifact, soils and leaves were stuck on the artifact to show the physical consistency of hill street. The journey was presented by drawings and story cards, telling the stories as well as emotions of pedestrians and residents on the street. All these things form the relationship.

Health and wellbeing of prisoners is a tricky issue. It is hard to solve bias from public and balance the unequal relationships between prisoners and stakeholders.

As a result, we designed a role play game to help them make sense of how prisoners may feel and address sickness and negative emotions. It is a empathy strategy.

At the very first, I was afraid to deconstruct the cigarette case I brought to class.

Because I had not figured out what kind of artifact it could turn into. I realized I was too indulging in goal-driven mindset which makes me anxious. So I tried to be more  brave and moved a step forward.

It is easy to observe things and manage them to form a visual document. But it is hard to link all the pictures together and tell an interesting story.

We assumed The Glasgow Necropolis as a real world where people live after they died. Everything we captured was telling stories about dead people’s life. A bridge is the physical link for people come to visit their dead friends and family members. The shadow of gravestone lying on grass is dead people enjoying beautiful sunshine. We made up a fiction world to present these visual work.

It is not easy to imagine the future life in 2 generations. 

An assumption of future life need to be critically evidenced. It is not only related to the existing and emerging technology, but also to the development law in the past. It need s everyone to brainstorm and cooperate closely together.

Limitations of craft materials: It’s challenging to find suitable ways to recombine the phone case parts, and using tape makes it look unattractive.

It is hard to make a suitable persona and his/her story without adequate desk researches. Merely based on our own experience could lead to a result with bias and too much personal thoughts. 

However, after a brainstorm about the first date from several aspects, discussing it with tutors and classmates. We finally made two personas and imagine a story of their terrible dating.

Most of the content taught in class is conceptual and vague. 

This requires us to continue to study more deeply after class and understand why we should learn them and their relationship with design. How can they help us iterate and update the original design process and thinking mode and finally apply them to practice?
