Over one third of the population was wiped out clean. The disease slowed down after 5 years, and in A.D. 1352 it was no longer a huge threat. The people at the time believed it to be "God's Divine Punishment", as they couldn't understand how a disease could be so potent. They had no idea of how to stop it, and they just had to let it spread.
