Week 1 (4/9/2023-9/9/2023)

After six semester of studying, it finally times for the practicum session to start. I first report on duty on 4th September at SK Seri Bintang Utara where I need to spend 14 weeks teaching students the English subject. On the first day, I meet with the Senior Assistant teacher of the school, Mrs Noriyati, where I introduce myself to her and hands her all the form from college for her to refer to. I was briefed about the do and don't while teaching and many more things that related to the school. Having finished the conversation with her, I went to meet the Headmistress to introduce myself. Among the things we talked about, she mentioned the importance of our intention when teaching the pupils even though we are only a practicum teacher and will not be here for long. We also have the chance of talking with the Senior Assistant teacher of Student Affairs, Mr. Nizam in which he mentioned the needs to not be overly fonds of the students here and also the needs to be stern with the students. Lastly, I also introduced myself to Co-Curricular Senior Admin Officer, Mrs. Mazidah where she brief me about the co-curricular activities that I need to join.

After meeting with all the administrator teachers of the school. I went to visit the teacher's room to introduce myself and to get to know the teachers at the school. Only after that do I have the chance of exploring the school surroundings to familiarized myself with it. During the first week, I also get the chance of involving myself with the school 'Gotong-Royong' event on Saturday, 9/9/2023. For that event, me and Aqlan were tasked with painting the school fence. Overall, there is no major problem that happens during this week as I haven't got into teaching still. It was a very good first week as I managed to follow the school rules and getting to know the important things in being a teacher.

Week 2 (11/9/2023-15/9/2023)

It the starts of week 2. It also marks the first week of teaching. In this week, on the first day, I was assigned a school mentor which is Madam Santha. She is the teacher that will be helping me with school matters especially on the teaching parts. During this week, I was also given a timetable to follow. I was assigned to teach two of Year 6 class and one Year 4 class. The two Year 6 class is the 6 Cemerlang which are one of the dual language programme class and another one is 6 Dinamik. I will be teaching both the class the English subject while I will be teaching 'Pendidikan Kesenian' for the Year 4 class, 4 Kreatif. With that being said, it will be my first time ever in teaching as it was my first ever practicum. It is quite nerve wrecking if I was to be honest with myself. But nevertheless, Madam Santha have helped me so much during the week. An instance of this can be seen when she is there in the class with me to correct and help me when I was teaching. She also helped in reviewing my lesson plan, correcting the parts that are wrong and giving tips on the classroom activity and the classroom management.

On 15th September, the last day of the week, the school celebrated Malaysia Day. All students are in 'Laman Bestari' until 10.30 where the event is being held. There's is performance by students, speech from the Headmistress and many more. Overall, the most challenging things that happen to me as of week 2 are in doing the lesson plan as there many correction that needs to be done as UPTM ways of doing the lesson plan had it flaws. One of the many flaws are in the objectives of the lesson as it needs to always be measurable. Lesson plan are also needed to be turn in to the Headmistress for her to checked on. Although it was hard to complete, I managed to done it the way my mentor asked me to.

Week 3 (18/9/2023- 23/9/2023)

It is the third weeks of my practicum session. This week marks the start of school sports day training. Every tuesday at 7.30 a.m until 9.00 a.m, all students need to attend their sports house meeting while on Wednesday, during the Co-curricular activity time, all standard two students will have their training by following the time table prepared by the school. During this week, I was starting to get myself familiar with teaching the students. There is no problem so far with the school and students. I managed to complete my lesson plan the way my mentor wanted it. I also managed to remember the students names and most importantly, i managed to conducted my class without an issues.

In this week also, my school have Kem Bestari Solat on 23rd of September. I was tasked with helping Ustazah Noraini in teaching the kids on how to do Tayyamum. It was fun, as students need to do the practical of it and seeing them try their hardest to learn it is satisfying. Overall, I managed to finish the week without much of an issue.

Week 4 (25/9/2023-29/9/2023)

It is already week 4 of my practicum session, on this week we have the Maulidur Rasul holiday on 28th of September. We also had a Maulidur Rasul celebration on 29th of September. During the week, i had no problem with conducting the class. My students starts to open up more with me in class. It can be seen when there are more volunteers who wants to share his or her answer with the class when doing activities. When teaching the 6 Cemerlang class, most of the students are starting to be very actives. Since it was the class of dual language program, it was easier for me to communicate with them compared to the other class, 6 Dinamik. With that being said, 6 Cemerlang class, although part of the dual language program still had difficulties in understanding certain words. Most of them can understand simple english but when added the bombastic words, had difficulties in understanding it.

So far, I had fun in teaching both of the class. Mostly because it felt satisfying teaching them new things but also because of the fun of it.

Week 5 (2/10/2023-6/10/2023)

It have been a month since the starts of my practicum. There nothing special going on this week. The school continue the sport house training on tuesday and wednesday and I have my usual timetable to follow. On this week, my mentor starts handing me full responsibilities of teaching the class. In the past 4 weeks, my mentor would be joining me during the class. Although she only sit at the back, she often evaluate my teaching at the end of each class on which parts I can improve. During this week, I also going to start on a new topic for 6 Cemerlang class, which is Unit 7-Music and Song. Since this topic require the use of audio, my mentor suggest me of buying a speaker and bring it to class when conducting the lesson. I did by my own, and it is one of the best purchase during the practicum session as my mentor allowed the use of speaker and mic in the classroom. It easier for me now to talk with the students as I don't have to shout or talk super loud for them anymore.

During this week, I was told by the Headmistress that it would be the meetings week. Practicum teachers are told to join the meetings as there many activities that we need to know about and follow. Out of the 5 workday, 3 of it which is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are the day we got meetings. With that being said, it is very tiring to saty up late at night to finish the lesson plan as the meetings end at 5.00 p.m which we need to follow.

Week 6 (9/10/2023-14/10/2023)

Week 6 of practicum. As usual, I followed the timetable prepared by the school. There's no problem in conducting the lesson. It was a fine week as there no after school activities or event that take up the class time. On this week, training of sports house are the same as usual. With that being said, I was tasked with teaching students formation for 'Kawad Kaki Pembarisan' for the school sports day. For information, I am part of the Maclay house. Week 6 is one of the most expensive week yet, I pay more than RM100 for teaching aids, where I need to prepare worksheets, and other miscellaneous things. Although, I had to spend that much on the teaching aids, seeing the students having fun while learning brings joy to my face. Another things to note on this week, is that we have Young Entrepreneurs Day on Tuesday. For the event, I was part of the 'Rumah Hantu' crew where I was tasked with being one of the ghost. It all went smoothly with a few moment that if I were to remember correctly from that day is that there's one student who peed himself because he was scared. There also others who cried. It was very fun to tease them afterwards.

Moving on, on Saturday, 14th October, the school celebrated 'Hari Sukan Negara' by preparing sports activities for students. For this event, parents are also invited. I was tasked with handling one of the games which is Sepak Takraw. With that, I could say that I managed to completed the week without much of an issue.

Week 7 (16/10/2023-20/10/2023)

It is already week 7 of my practicum session. The teachers are getting busy with 'Sukantara' which in turn result to no class being held for the whole week as the school had to conduct 'Sukantara'. I was not an exception to this, as I was busy with helping other teachers and also setting up all the equipments for students. During this week, I had been tasked specifically with helping teacher in managing the 'Lompat Tinggi' sports. On Monday and Tuesday, I was at 'Laman Bestari' the whole day conducting the 'Sukantara'. As for on Wednesday and Thusrday, I was tasked with the 'Lontar Peluru' sports, while on Friday, I was tasked with 'Sukaneka'. Other teachers and pupils will be at the school field for 'Larian' after recess time the whole week where I also needed to be there to take care of students who don't participate in any of the sports. Honestly, it was very tiring as I need to stay under the sun the whole day. I burned myself on this week as not only do I need to handle sports during school time but also to complete the lesson plan after it even though there is no class being conducted.

Week 8 (23/10/2023-28/10/2023)

For week 8, same as last week which is week 7, there are no class being conducted. Many students had to participate in Acara Akhir for all the sports while most of the other students had training for 'Pembarisan' as sports day are held on 28th of October are getting near. I was very busy as I need to train the students on the formation for 'Pembarisan' while also had to do my task of taking care of the students who are in the 'Acara Akhir' for 'Lompat Tinggi' sports. With that being said, I managed to finish teaching the students formation for 'Pembarisan'. It is not without it difficulties though, as finding students who are not in any of the 'Acara' are quite difficult. Although my sport house didn't manage to get the first place for the 'Pembarisan', we are second place overall and I think that it is good enough. One things that I learned so far is that being a teacher are not easy, not only do I need to excel in curriculum but to also be active in co-curricular.

Week 9 (30/10/2023-3/11/2023)

It been 2 months since the starts of my practicum journey. On 30th October, the school are closed as we had School Sports Day on last Saturday. The week starts with 'Majlis Perlantikan Duta' where there people from Cheras Police Station who came to school to help with the inauguration. My lesson were not affected by it as if we were to follow the time table, my class starts at 10.30 a.m and finished at 11.30 a.m, while the event finish at 10.00 a.m. With that, I can continue my lesson as usual with 6 Cemerlang as I had my first ever observation with my mentor. It was nerve-wrecking as I'm afraid that my students can't achieve the objectives I prepared for them. But it was all fine at the end of the day. The whole lesson went smoothly although there some part which my mentor says can be improved on. On Wednesday, before recess time, we got the 'Solidarity with Palestine' event. The event starts with reading of du'a by Ustaz Fitri and Headmistress speech. The event continue with speech from Director of Pudu Zone and performance by students. This day also marks the day of my supervisor observation. No issues regarding this. I managed to do all the activities I had prepared and the students give their full focus when learning the things I taught, which is future simple tense. Although the lesson went smoothly, there a few things that my supervisor advised that could be improved especially on the intonations of my voice and the need to provide more example for students so that they can understand it better.

On friday, I had my second mentor observation. Supposedly, my class, 6 Dinamik starts at 7.30 until 8.30 but due to an event being done in the morning, I'm left with only 20 minutes of class time. My mentor planned on doing the observation on next Monday, but due to the need of marks by 3rd of November, I swapped timetable with Mr Taufiq who had class time with 6 Dinamik at 11.00 am to 12.00 pm. Although I was in a rush, I managed to conduct the lesson without much of an issue. My mentor do gives her view on my way of teaching expecially on the needs to prepare more difficult activity as students finished answering and doing the works much faster than expected. Overall, it is a nice week where all the things that needed to be done managed to be done.

Week 10 (6/11/2023-10/11/2023)

Beginning of week 10, more than half of the practicum session gone by. During the hectic time of practicum, week 10 is sort of a solace. Not much happening on this week. Class gone by as usual with me teaching Year 6 Cemerlang and 6 Dinamik. While I had finished my observation for the practicum, I didn't however take it easy on my students. Continuing the lesson, I taught my students new topic of their syllabus while also enjoying myself in teachings. In week 10 also, as my students have familiarize themselves with my way of teaching, they could understand the things i want to teach them easily. During this week also, I had my students submit their exercise book for me to marks. It was a nice experience, as I could see their works and understand how they answer and do the exercise. In a way, it was an approach to better understand them. As there no school activity and event going on during the week, I could focus on my class better. Students listens and also take parts in all the classroom activity I had prepared for them.

Week 11 (13/11/2023-17/11/2023)

Week 11 of practicum, we had Deepavali holiday for two days which is on Monday and Tuesday. There is no event going on this week. Classroom are as usual except for co-curricular activities where students had marching practice for school marching competition between the uniformed unit. I was tasked with the Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah uniformed unit. I was tasked with teaching the selected students the way of marching. It was my very first time doing it, and honestly it was fun. Of course, it was tiring but that is parts of the job, so i couldn't really complained about it. For the most part, it was fun as there is many students who truly tried their best. There is also those who tried but fails, so my job is to trained them until they can do it. Moving on to my teachings on this week, students are very easy-going, I can see that, they now can relax more and could muster up the courage to directly asks me questions related to the topic without me having to go and check on them. It easier on my parts as students could freely asks me questions which in turn made the classroom more fun and others who had the same questions could listens too.

Week 12 (20/11/2023-25/11/2023)

In this week, the whole standard two students will be having a workshop on how to answer their UASA paper. I was part of it too, where I had to assist my mentor in teaching Year 4,5 and 6. To be honest, It was my very first time seeing the new format since my time of UPSR. It was new but also not as challenging. The paper consist of seven parts including two parts where students need to write down an essay. On Monday, I first need to help my mentor teach Year 5 students, for the most parts my mentor let the students answer their module on their own before discussing it together later on. I was tasked with discussing Part 1 until 5 which is the objective and subjective parts of the paper while my mentor will be discussing on the essays. It was quite an easy tasks as the answer sheet is given to me. I do however teaches the students on the better ways of answering the questions after consulting it with my mentor. It was the same on Tuesday where I assists my mentor on teaching Year 6 and on Year 4 on Wednesday.

During this week also, from Friday to Sunday, the school had a Uniformed unit camp at Lubuk Manggis, Hulu Langat. I was informed by the teachers of my time of duty for the camp which is on Saturday from 9.00 a.m until 3.00 p.m. During the camp, not much is teachers needed for as there are facilitators who handled the students. The teachers do however need to be in charge of taking care of each check points for obstacle challenges. I was tasked with monitoring the students on check point 6 which is to climbing a wall. Overall, it was nice and fun as I get to know the teachers there and be friendly towards them.

Week 13 (27/11/2023-1/12/2023)

It was already week 13 of my practicum, it is about to end now. In that sense, week 13 is sort of a closure for me. I had my fun time teachings the students. I also had my fun getting to know the teachers and the school. During the week, class time is as usual except for on Thursday. During class time, as usual, I prepared a suitable activities for the students and also a suitable worksheets as an exercise. Class go on without much of a challenge.

But on Thursday, the school celebrate Children Day. Students are given the chance to dress up as any character they want to. Teachers are too. With that being said, we practicum teacher did not get informed clearly on this and miss out on the chance to dress up as the character we want to. For the Children day, the event starts with a speech from the Headmistress and the opening gimmick to celebrate the Children Day. It continues with teachers singing and performance by students. After that, at 10 a.m students will go to their class and had their end of the year banquet. Students keep on coming to my table to share the food their brings and I had to eat so much good food it brings me joy. In general, it was a very fun day where I get to be happy for the students and their get to celebrate a day made for them.

Week 14 (4/12/2023-8/12/2023)

Final week of the practicum, had a mix of emotions. Never in my life did I think of the day where I get to experience being a teacher and it already the end of it. During the week, on Wednesday, the school had it marching competition between the school uniformed units which is Pengakap, Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah, Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah, Pandu Puteri and Puetri Islam. The training and practice are all for this day. With the judge being invited from the nearest police stations, I was tasked with being the runner where I need to collect the marks from the judge. The competition is succesful with Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah being the winner and Pengakap as the runner-up while Pandu Puteri in third place. It was cool to see the students compete with each other on which uniformed unit get the first place.

On Friday, the school had an anti-drugs campaign. Class for standard two is postponed on that day as they need to be at Laman Bestari to hear a talk on the anti-drugs campaign with an exhibition right after. Since most of the teacher are involved, it leave standard 1 with not having enough teacher to teach the students. I was tasked with mostly replacing the teacher for their class. Overall, it is a nice ends to my 14 weeks of practicum.
