         <title>4 Year Olds</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Physical Development</strong><br>- Have a hard time switching their focus from far sided and near sided. (i.e. students at this age will have a hard time copying information that is on the white board in front of them because that involves a quick switch in focus from far and near sided.)<br>- Students are often going to be very clumsy and cause messes often. At this age, teaching cleaning methods can support independence for their following&nbsp; years.<br>2. <strong>Social &amp; Emotional Development </strong><br>- Students can be easily redirected from inappropriate behavior if there is a model of what appropriate behavior looks like in a certain scenario. <br>- Love to help around the classroom and excites in the opportunity to do certain classroom jobs<br>3. <strong>Communication Development </strong><br>- Students at this stage have a wild sense of imagination and they love to put their imagination into play as much as possible. <br>- Enjoy read aloud settings either as a whole class, individually, or in a small group.<br>4. <strong>Cognitive Development </strong><br>- Students will have a short attention span. They will have a hard time staying on one topic for a long time.<br>- These students love to be active and play.&nbsp; Learning with movement involved is best for students at this stage of development. <br>5. <strong>Learning Development </strong><br>-&nbsp; <em>Reading</em> : Having a balance between the students being listeners but also storytellers. Allow for their imagination to have a space in the classroom so that their ideas and opinions feel heard. <br>- <em>Math</em> : Use storytelling to enhance engagement in certain math problems.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1. Physical Development <br></strong>- Students will have trouble spacing out letters and numbers while writing. Using a finger can help the student space better.<br>- They will have better control of their larger movements. <br><strong>2. Social &amp; Emotional Development <br></strong>- Students at this stage depend on what the adults think and their approval. They also seek adult guidance at this stage. <br>- Follow simple and clear expectations and respond to well to these types of direction. <br><strong>3. Communication Development <br></strong>- Younger 5 year olds will communicate using very few words, sometimes even one word sentences to express themselves. <br>- Older 5 year olds love to elaborate and explain their answers to certain questions. <br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- These students will learn best when movement is involved, repetition, and hands on activities that involve a lot of interaction to the content itself. <br>- Students may begin to get stuck in a repetitive behavior due to fear of trying something new and making a mistake. <br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Reading books that are predictable with less words and more pictures can help enhance their reading abilities.<br>- <em>Math</em> : Incorporate real life examples when discussing size, length, shape, and volume.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Physical Development<br></strong>- Students at this age are most likely teething so they will want to chew on a lot of different objects. <br>- They have developed a better sense of tracking words from left to right and have a better understanding of going back to the beginning of the line.<br><strong>2. Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Students at this age are extremely sensitive. Harsh or intense criticism at this age could possible be traumatizing. <br>- They are very ambitious at this age and may choose activities that are too hard for them at this stage. <br><strong>3. Communication Development<br></strong>- Students may use very cheerful and enthusiastic language to express themselves.<br>- Students will enjoy explaining themselves and their opinions to others around them. <br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Their curiosity is running wild so they love to ask multiple questions.<br>- Students at this age are fairly comfortable in loud and noisy settings and are able to work in this kind of environment. <br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Use different activities for them to explain what they thought about the reading or how they felt about certain aspects of a story. <br>- <em>Math</em> : Include the use of money to develop basic computation.</div>]]></description>

Physical Development <br></strong>- Are becoming a lot more developed using their gross and fine motor skills. <br>- Still find enjoyment in outdoor activities and movement but at this age, they will often prefer technology to play games. <br><strong>2. Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Students are likely to have a best friend at this stage but this label can often be switched from one person to another. <br>- They are in need of stability and structure and tend to not do well with certain changes in schedule or in the classroom environment. <br><strong>3. Communication Development<br></strong>- Students are able to listen well and are able to use more precise vocabulary. <br>- They will have a lot of interest in the definitions and meanings behind certain words.<br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Students at this age enjoy working slowly and getting their work done before transitioning to another topic. <br>- Students will still find enjoyment in read aloud and others reading certain books for them such as chapter books. <br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Provide time for individual reading time as their independent reading has developed quite a bit at this point. <br>-<em> Across the Curriculum</em> : Involve the use of online programs such as PowerPoint to present what their thoughts are and different things that they have learned.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Physical Development <br></strong>- Their eyes are better developed and have developed the ability to better focus from far and near sided naturally. <br>- Students may seem awkward in certain aspects of coordination due to growth spurts at this age. <br><strong>2. Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Student enjoy group work and being able to interact and socialize with their peers in a group setting. <br>- Students will seek peers approval along with teacher and authority approval at this stage. <br><strong>3. Communication Development<br></strong>- Their use of vocabulary is going to be begin expanding rapidly as this point. <br>- Students are able to pay attention but often have trouble remembering exactly what they are supposed to be doing.<br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Students at this stage of development tend to exaggerate certain explanations or ideas. <br>- Students will need help with organization strategies but for the most part usually organize well on their own. <br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Allow for research projects and allow for them to become the expert on certain topics that they choose.<br>- <em>Across the Curriculum</em> : Work on class projects that advertise unity.</div>]]></description>

Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Students may get easily bored or frustrated with certain aspects of learning when it feels difficult or repetitive. <br>- Are often switching between being moody and negative to goofy, fun, and positive a moment later.<br><strong>3. Communication Development<br></strong>- Love learning new vocabulary and find enjoyment in role plays or short skits.<br>- Students at this stage of development enjoy the use of technology to express their own ideas.<br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Students at this age are becoming more and more aware and may find themselves becoming more curious of bigger issues.<br>- Pay attention to detail in certain activities but will often quickly switch their interests. <br><strong>5. Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Students are usually happy and friendly and enjoy the company of their family, peers, and other teachers. <br>- They find pride in being rewarded and appreciate being noticed for their efforts.<br><strong>3. Communication Development <br></strong>- Students are able to listen well to others and enjoy hearing what others have to say. They also find enjoyment in discussing their own ideas and explaining. <br>- Need a lot of incorporation of independent reading within their schedules. <br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Students at this stage are very eager to learn.<br>- Students have an excellent memory at this stage and are able to memorize a lot of different content. <br><strong>5. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Students will have more of a desire to learn a new skill rather than take the time to work on a previous one.<br>- They are going to have trouble making decisions and become very defensive about different mistakes that they make.<br><strong>4. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- They are able to create more abstract ideas about bigger moral issues. <br>- Students may begin to excel at one subject than another. <br><strong>4. Communication Development <br></strong>- Find appreciation in teachers who take the time to listen to their opinions and ideas and apply it when appropriate. <br>- Students are able to see different sides of an argument but are able to argue one side.<br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Provide opportunities to learn about present day news by reading newspapers or news articles. <br>- <em>Across the Curriculum</em> : Provide opportunities for the students to choose what they do, how they do it, and who they work with.</div>]]></description>

Social &amp; Emotional Development<br></strong>- Pays close attention to others in order to understand what may be "cool" or "not cool" so that they know what to do to fit in.<br>- Worry and complain about the work load that they receive. <br><strong>3. Cognitive Development<br></strong>- Often worry and this could lead to a lack of motivation to work on harder tasks that could end up in failure. <br>- The subjects and topics that they like and dislike become more distinct. <br><strong>4. Communication Development<br></strong>- Find joy in questioning authority, sometimes just for the feeling of striking an argument.<br>- Highly judgmental of those around them including teachers. <br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : Provide opportunity for the students to read text that involves debates and arguments. <br>- <em>Reading</em> : Enforce the use of textual evidence when involving themselves in a debate.</div>]]></description>

Cognitive Development <br></strong>- A positive response can occur when there is a variety of content and teaching methods that are being used.<br>- Students enjoy learning about the why of things or how things work. <br><strong>4. Communication Development<br></strong>- Students are becoming more open to admitting when they are wrong and are less opposed to trying something multiple times. <br>- May begin to develop an eccentric sense of humor.<br><strong>5. Learning Development<br></strong>- <em>Reading</em> : The use of text that relates to their lives becomes very powerful. (i.e. coming of age books)<br>- <em>Across the Curriculum</em> : Allow for time to take breaks and stretch so that the students are constantly sitting.</div>]]></description>
