         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li>&nbsp;The Battle of Saratoga occurred from September to October in 1777 in the second year of the American Revolution. The colonists won the battle despite their lack of training and the great disadvantage with how many soldiers they had compared to the British.&nbsp;</li><li>The battle was a turning point in the American Revolution. It demonstrated the strength of the Americans and in turn, gave the Patriots a major morale boost. This demonstration of strength also persuaded the French to join their cause.</li></ol><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li>&nbsp;A proclamation made by the British that all slaves were guaranteed their freedom if they joined the British military against the Colonists.&nbsp;</li><li>This gave slaves a purpose to leave their colonist owners (who were most likely loyalists) in the South to join the British army, gaining their freedom in the process. This gave the British more numbers in battle and helped them build up their military at a time where they were begging in to get desperate to end the long, drawn-out war with the colonies.&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li>The final battle was fought in Yorktown between the Colonies and Britain over the independence of the colonies.</li><li>The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the American Revolution, in which the British surrendered and later started to talk about peace deals with the American colonies in order to end the war. After this battle, the British lost most of their support at home and had no reason to continue to fight the colonies over their independence. They realized they would never succeed to capture all 13 colonies in the amount of time that they had originally planned.</li></ol><div><br></div>]]></description>

In the document, the British Crown formally recognized American independence and ceded most of its territory east of the Mississippi River to the United States. This doubled the size of the newly independent nation and paved the way for westward expansion.&nbsp;</li></ol><div><br></div>]]></description>
