4. Vladek is a man who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has a lot of money and never really had to work. Vladek was a lady's man who got a lot of attention. Vladek was sent to war and he had no idea what was going on. 3. Spiegelman usual depicts the Germans to believe that the Jews are worthless and do not deserve to live.

He tells Artie about how he was a lady's man. He also talks about meeting a woman named Lucia. Lucia was intent on dating Vladek and persisted and Valdek finally agreed to give her a chance. 
In chapter two, Vladek finds out that Anja was helping out communists. This made him very mad and he told her to stop. Later on, Anja gave birth to Artie and they almost thought he was going to die because he was premature. After that, Anja became suicidal and decided to take her to a sanatorium. When they got home , they found out that the factory got robbed.
In chapter three, Valadek is sent to war. Vladek sees a tree that starts moving and he shoots the person disguised as a tree. Soon after awhile, they got caught by the Germans and were sent to a Prisoner of War camp. Spiegelman almost makes the story comforting to read becausehis style of writing is a comic.
