CURRENT WATER DEMAND
Water demand in Singapore is currently about 430 million gallons a day (mgd) that is enough to fill 782 Olympic-sized swimming pools, with homes consuming 45% and the non-domestic sector taking up the rest. By 2060, Singapore's total water demand could almost double, with the non-domestic sector accounting for about 70%.

CAUSE
However, Singapore does not have much natural resources. Singapore heavily rely on imported water from Malaysia, more than 60% of their water is from imported water.

Question 2 - Water management methods

1. Marina Barrage - Singapore’s 15th reservoir, built across the mouth of Marina Channel. With a catchment area of 10,000 hectares, or one-sixth the size of Singapore, Marina catchment is the island’s largest and most urbanised catchment. Together with two other reservoirs, Marina Reservoir has increased Singapore’s water catchment from half to two-thirds of the country’s land area.
2. Changi Airport rooftop water collection system - Changi Airport system collects and treats rainwater, which accounts for 28 to 33% of its total water used, resulting in savings of approximately S$ 390,000 per annum. A simple computer programme was developed and nomogram prepared relating the roof area, tank size and roofwater available.
3.Desalination and spillage
In 2005 Singapore opened its first desalination plant, which is one of the largest in the world and provides 10% of the city's water supply. The city's long-term goal is to multiply the production of desalinated water, and a tendering process is under way for another plant of twice the capacity. Experts say that Singapore is evolving into a hub for science and technology regarding water recycling and desalination.
