By: Megan Davids

On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Chapel. It is rumoured that Martin had hung and written the paper out of anger. He was angry at the Pope, and his new round of indulgences.
Luther's 95 theses consisted of questions and propositions for debate. His theses were surprisingly written in a very humble and academic tone. Some theses included critisism of indulgences, and good works popes could grant to people in order to cancel out penence for sins.

Recently, Martin Luther released his document of his 95 Theses at Wittenberg Castle Church. The word got out about it and the social economy reacted quickly. Regardless of what the townspeople think, I agree with his theses. I've always thought that the Catholic Church was too strict.
Now that people have been further informed on the topic of Luther's indulgences, I think we can all agree that there are many wrongs in the church rules. We are all born as sinners and we cannot help it. Luther argues this in one of his theses. He also brings up his complaint about selling indulgences. I completely agree with him. I think that people shouldn't be allowed to buy their way out of a punishment.

After Martin Luther's 95 theses were posted, it was spread fast. He was ordered to come to a city called Augsburg in Germany to support his thinking. This debate, later known as the Leipzig Debate, lasted three days. It was mainly between Johann Eck and, of course, Martin Luther. It ended with the Pope threatening to suspend Luther from the Catholic Church. Eventually, he was excommunicated.
In the early 16th century, Martin Luther founded Lutheranism. It had initiated the Protestant Reformation. He made this branch of Christianity to improve the Catholic Church. His ideas were spread throughout the religion and the European countries. At the Lutheranism Church, his theses were practiced.

We interviewd Mary-Anne Lee to find out what exactly she saw.
"I was walking home when I saw Martin hanging what looked to be a long list on the chapel door." she told us. "I didn't stop to get a good look because I was in such a rush, but I did think it was quite strange. He looked very determined." she ended.
