My mother was sensible and decided to put me in the uplifting spot as "Head Babysitter." My brother, diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, wasn't the calmest and prone to screaming. I was patient and took my time finding the perfect way to make the babysitting thing work. Soon I wasn't only his 'annoying' sister I was someone he mildly respected.

My story ties back to my thematic statement by showing how I was determined to gain my brother's respect and calm him down. I used prompts and writing books to practice my skills after school to ensure I could maybe win. The day of the competition I was led into a small classroom with several other kids, and after 15 minutes I was done writing my piece. After a long, dreaded wait the places were announced and I learned I was in the first place!

My reading skills started to increase and my mother was very pleased with my exceptional skills. By the time I hit second grade I was well into the world of literature and was reading the Narnia Chronicles and Harry Potter books
