How do we check a bandage ?

It is best to keep checking it everyday to make sure that the bandage is still in place . You can check the bandage is not to tight by fitting 2 fingers in , if you can’t then it means it’s to tight and can lead to issues such as circulatory problems . You also need to make sure that there’s no weeping through the bandage , as this could mean that the wounds getting worse and could be infected . There should be no abnormal swelling , if there is then the bandage could be to tight or an infection is occurring .

What to avoid?

·     Avoid getting bandage wet

·     Avoid adjusting the bandage

·     Avoid replacing with out a vet guidance

Signs to look out for ?

·     Skin irritation

·     Bandage sores

·     Chewed

·     Patient interference

·     Any unpleasant smell or liquid

Any owner tips/guidance ?

Tips for an owner would be for them to not mess with the bandage themselves and if there is any problems seek medical advice from a vet . Keep an eye on there animal , checking  there is no patient interference .

Patient interference tips ?

If the patient is interfering then they may need to get the bandage replaced . A buster collar could also be an option .

When to call the vet ?

If the bandage is :

·     Chewed through

·     Wound is exposed

·     Signs of infection

·     Smell
