Each and everyone of us have several different aspects that make up our identity. With this, we are forced to grow and learn in a white patriarchal society experiencing many different things in a variety differnt ways based on the aspects of our identities. I am very aware that I am afforded more oppurtunities due the color of my skin and my sexuality which would put me in the category of privelaged. On the other hand I also face the daily challenges of a young oppressed female. I think it is important to be aware of both identities and where they cross which could be labeled as intersectionality.

This song expresses my view on how we should treat others. Their is so much hate in our world, due to the emphasis on our differences rather than the appreciation of them. The video also provides the viewer with images of gender role reversal. I like that Harry did not use the stereotypical outfits and dances you would see in the media with a male and female. I am rather passionate about women being viewed as strong, independent, and equals of others. I believe these aspects highlight my identity. This video helps to depict this well and the words of the song is reminder to to simply be kind.

Billie Eillish, herself, represents many important aspects in our world. She is not the stereotypical female artist. Billie specifically chooses to wear oversized clothing so men, or others, are not given the oppurtunity to sexualize her. The song "My Future" by Billie Eillish is an important song to me becuase it highlights the aspects of being an independent individual and focusing on your future goals and asperations rather than the love of another person. Being self-reliant is a great part of my identity. The lyric "Im in love with my future, Can't wait to meet her, And I, I'm in love, but not with anybody else, just wanna get to know myself" is what speaks to me the most in this song. I believe this highlights my independent aspect of my identity.

Harry Styles, himself, is an advocate for many things in our world as well. He is an activist for many different things in our world, but mainly within the LGBTQ+ community. Although I am heterosexual myself, and this provides me with great privelage, I do see the importance of recognizing the opression of the LGBTQ+ community and am proud to suppport a celebrity who appreciates everyone. Lights up is a song that represents the mental helth aspect of my Identity. I interpert this song as a way of describing an internal struggle with mental health. The lyrics "step into the light, so bright sometimes, I'm not ever going back" and "all the lights couldn't put out the dark" sounds as if Harry is describing this struggle. This describes the "mostly stable mental health" that is a part of my identity.

Rosie the Riveter was a very important universal image because she represented the fact that women are good for more than just keeping the house and serving their spouse. She represents the strength of women and that they are strong enough to more than just house work. Women are a necessary component to our society despite the fact that they are not given the credit they deserve and are constantly told otherwise. Women are both physically and mentally strong and necessary in our world. This image is so important because it is a reminder to know and understand our worth as females regardless of what those around us have to say.

Holding a women's weightlifing competition was a large step in history for our world. Women began shattering the stereotypes created for them. I, myself, am passionate about weightlifting, and although I am shattering gender stereotypes, I face judgemental looks and remarks when visting the gym. Men see females lifting heavy weights and automatically think this is not right, and that women should remain "frail and feminine. This boy was 14 years old when writing and performing this and I found this to be extremely moving. For him to be so young, and be able to recognize the advantages and disadvantages different identities provided each individual is very powerful. My favorite part of this performance was when he told the boys to start acting like women. Any other male would take this remark as degrading. I believe that this being performed as a slam poem allowed for greater emphasis and conveyed the powerful message.

It was not until I took this class that I became self aware and was able to understand to what extent this truly was the case. The following quote highlights the way in which America is built for white privelage. "The white mob exists outside of the American mythology, but it has long shaped the nations reality". When reading this essay, I understood that white individuals continue to get away with hate crimes because they hold a very specific privelage that no one else can be afforded. White will always be a part of my identity and I think being self aware can help me see things from other perspectives.

This satirical piece by Jane Caro discusses the underappreciation given to females, and in particular, mothers. Mothers are not creddited for the work they must endure in order to birth and care for a child. They are less appreciated in society than what men are and are seen as inferrior, but the addition of having to do all the work of holding a child adds to it as well. Being female will always be an aspect of my identity. The quote "We need mother's lives to be understood and taken seriously in a way they never have been for the full 365 days a year", stuck out to me as I feel as though the work, pain, and time is often overlooked and greatly underappreciated that women must go through.

When reading this poem in class, I appreciated the meaning behind it. The ambiguity allowed the reader to make what they wanted of it. Every individual is marked in a different way due to to their own unique experiences percived differently due to their unique idnetities. I am marked by experiencing specific things in identity of a white, heterosexual, middle-class female. I value the line "Make your mark proud, and open". I think Tafolla is conveying the point that an individual should make their "mark" confidently as well through the metaphor of using ink, mud, or berries instead of a pencil. She says this so that no one can "erase" YOU.

Not only am I passionate about caring for our world, and saving our Earth, but this poem spoke to me in a different way as well. Yolen describes being one with Earth, and although we all have different identities, when putting things into perspective, we are human beings. This poem could serve as a reminder that we are all ultimately the same and come from the same place despite our differences. If the color of our skin, gender, sexuality, or any other aspect of our identity is different, it can never change the fact that we are all human. "I am the Earth, And the Earth is me".
