1. Grendel - Image

Many people could see him looking many different ways, but I think mine is quite different from most. I choose the picture below because it represents a man that shows no emotion but is capable of inhuman task. Such as carrying thirty body's away as Grendel did to his lair. He doesn't look like a monster at all in my opinion, just a regular man with a mask. No one really knows what he is capable of but they will find out if they don't hide. He hides in the shadows and comes out when the time is right.

2. Grendel - Music

This is not a song with lyrics. It is a piece of music that lasts one hour. I think it relates to Darkness and Grendel well. It provides the suspense of Grendel attacking the Thanes with the musics build up. 7:05-10:00 could be seen as the build up to the attacks. It is a rhythmic piece with the effects you would expect out of a horror movie. From 40:00-51:00, could be the actual attack on the Thanes and their unpreparedness.

I chose to post Eduardo Jimenez's link tot he the poem. Eduardo is in 8th period. I thought his connection to darkness was great. He said "I chose this for the fact that even in our darkest hours, there is light. Most of us may despise darkness for it may just seem negative but it keeps us balanced. Without darkness, how will we know what light is, we need darkness. Yet the darkness needs us, it invites us in but know there is a way out, making it not as evil as many may presume"

I think he is exactly right. Even in what may seem our darkest hours in life, there is always a beam of hope. You can always remove yourself from the darkness. Help is out there you just have to have the will to find it. The image he chose (shown below) shows a person in a relatively dark room but with a window of light beaming down. Showing us that there is a silver lining in everything. It just hast to be found.

5. Scholarly Article

http://journal.oraltradition.org/files/articles/7ii/5_desmond.pdf

This article is very informative on Grendel and the story as a whole. Stating that the attack is one of if not the "most vivid and memorable scene in Beowulf and quite
possibly in all of Anglo-Saxon narrative.". That's a strong statement to make. Some of the text is a little to over my head, and I don't really understand some of it. (I guess thats why its called a scholarly article) From what I can gather from it, the story is intriguing to most of the world today as it was back when it was written. It has triggered some of the most in depth research ever inititated on a story from centuries ago.
