Early Life

My name is Ahmed Madriz. I was born in Managua, Nicaragua, on August 5, 1981, and immigrated to the United States in 1985. I grew up in Key West, Florida, and attended Key West High School. From a young age, I was fascinated by war movies and always dreamed of becoming a soldier. At 18, I made the decision to join the U.S. Army, following my passion for service and dedication to my country in which I was raised, even though I was born in Nicaragua.

Kosovo

I left for the Army and basic training in September of 2000. I joined as an Infantry soldier and upon completion I was assigned to 2nd Battalion 502nd Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. upon Arriving at my unit 2/502nd battalion came on orders to deploy to Kosovo for a Peacekeeping mission with NATO. We Deployed to Kosovo in May of 2001. While on deployment we were tasked in stopping the in fighting between Serbians and Albanians. We conducted patrols in the Mountains on the border of Macedonia to prevent weapons from crossing the border.

Iraq

On March 8th 2003 we boarded plane from Ft Campbell KY to Kuwait to prepare for the invasion of Iraq. The entire 101st Airborne Division deployed. We invaded Iraq on March 20th and our unit was tasked with clearing all southern cities of enemy combatants working our way north. We Cleared southern cities of Kufa, Najaf, with a major battle of Karbala and making our way north for the push to Baghdad. our unit continued north to Mosul Iraq where the 101st set up our base of operations and secured the city.

Family

I was married while in Army. I had 2 boys and after Iraq my wife and I grew apart. We divorced and she gave me full custody of my boys. I was a single father for a long time and decided to get out of the Army. I left the Army in October of 2005. I remarried in 2017. I now have an additional 2 daughters.

Becoming an Educator

I was a stay at home dad for a long time. I felt like I needed to do something important with my life. I found my calling as an educator. I am on my 2nd year and love it. I also get to go with my daughter to school everyday. I currently hold my temporary license but am now in the process of earning my professional license.
