Many degrees and schooling.
As a special ed teacher, she has assessments that are very informal but also standardized tests and also everything in the middle. It depends on what subject it is and who the student is.
Anecdotal versus data-driven. There are some that make it easier and definitely using both in her area.
Go to: FMPS - benchmark assessment
Working smarter not harder: Only resource teacher in the building. Knowing the curriculum helps her strategic working, not always writing lesson plans but using resources around her.
She sees the potential in students even with their special education and wants to help students grow and learn. She uses the data to look at where students are sees where they can be and truly desires for them to take steps while she has them in class.
Be very careful who you surround yourself with and that it should be positive people and not negative that can tear you down. Remember your why and why you have the passion and why you wanted to become a teacher.
Filtering out the stuff. Read a lot of books but think it is about a time of reflection and shutting out the chatter and remembering the why of why she is here. Continuing to improve each day!

It is a tool that she can use to determine what her students know and what they need to learn next and what they are reading to know.
Go-to assessments: Hands-on that is fast and easy.

Taught for over 20 years.
3rd-grade teacher
Graduated from K-State
Assessment: Biggest thing teachers can do is make observations. What they are mastering and what they are still struggling with and how you can help them with this.
Go to assessments: small groups are such an opportunity to meet with students one on one and make connections with students and meet their needs. You will learn more about your students this way.
Small groups are every day with every single kid.
Working smarter, not harder: Be a team!
- Divide and conquer
- Use different strengths of others to help one another
Being able to see what students need when you can meet with small groups. This helped her when she realized her students needed more help with reading and processing. She wouldn't have been able to do this without seeing them in their small groups.
Teaching will bring us joy each day as we give it our all and follow our calling.
Why teach? The impact that you have on others is the main thing. Our students can reflect back on our year of teaching and that we should have a lasting impact on them and help them achieve great things. Teaching matters and it makes a difference.
Teachers who are driven and love kids.
