One of the best-known examples is YouTube, Google, Instagram, Facebook , tiktok and many others, specifically in my past work I explained many functions of what is known as canva that is used so that users can enter different types of functions such as making presentations, making flowcharts, even making layouts and now they included new functions such as making internet pages all user interfaces are dedicated so that people use them more easily

It's crucial to consider that people have limits and make mistakes, your product design should consider those as well.

"As a Designer your job is to understand those limitations of people as actors in the system."

Definition of a UX designer:

According to Norman, UX encompasses not only user interface (UI) design but also the design of the entire user experience, including factors such as perceived value, performance, aesthetics, ease of use, and how the user feels when interacting with the product before, during, and after its use.

Tasks:

In the article by Six, Janet M. (2010), Essential and Desirable Skills for a UX Designer, several desirable skills for this profession are mentioned, among which the following stand out:

Multidisciplinary approach: A UX Designer must be skilled in various areas of design, such as interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and user-centered design, ensuring consistency across these aspects in digital products.

Adaptation based on the type of product or service: The designer must adjust their approach depending on the context of the product or service. For instance, interaction design is crucial for applications, while information architecture takes priority for content-rich websites.

Deep expertise and broad knowledge: A UX Designer must have deep expertise in several design disciplines while maintaining broad knowledge of other relevant aspects within their domain.

Teamwork and collaboration: The designer must collaborate with other product team members or a larger UX team, ensuring that all dimensions of the design are aligned and delivering a coherent user experience.

Holistic design vision: The designer must be able to provide comprehensive solutions that address all aspects of user experience, from product form and behavior to content and user assistance, ensuring a consistent and user-centered experience.

These criteria highlight the importance of a holistic and adaptable approach to user experience design.

Stages:

User Research: It consists of gathering information about users, their needs, behaviors, and problems through interviews, surveys, and observation.

Analysis and Definition: Here, the collected data is analyzed to define problems, create personas (fictional representations of users), and establish clear design goals.

Ideation: Generating ideas and solutions through brainstorming, sketches, and collaborative workshops. It is a creative process without limitations.

Prototyping: Creating models or preliminary versions of the product, ranging from low-fidelity sketches to high-fidelity interactive prototypes.

Usability Testing: Evaluating the prototypes with real users to identify issues and gather feedback, allowing for design refinement and improvement.

Implementation: Developing the final product based on the prototypes and the testing conducted.

Launch and Monitoring: Releasing the product to the market and tracking its usage, collecting data and feedback for future improvements.

References:

NNgroup.
Milton Menchaca: Integrative activity. The profile of the UX Designer

The 7 principles of design that all designers should follow are:

1. User-centricity

User-centricity is fundamental to UX design, emphasizing the importance of creating solutions that align with user needs, preferences, and behaviors. The UX process starts with user research, which helps designers grasp the challenges users encounter and develop products that effectively address these problems. This principle involves collecting insights through user interviews, usability testing, and ongoing feedback loops to enhance the product continuously throughout its lifecycle.

2. Consistency

Consistency is key for users to navigate and engage with a product effortlessly. It fosters trust by keeping design elements, interaction patterns, and behaviors uniform throughout the user experience. This principle encompasses both visual design—like typography, colors, and layout—and interaction design—such as how buttons behave, menu navigation, and error handling. By adhering to this principle, we can lower the learning curve, enhance usability, and strengthen brand identity across various platforms.

3. Hierarchy

Hierarchy is essential for helping users navigate a product or interface in a clear and logical way. It involves arranging information according to its significance and urgency. Visual hierarchy, which includes aspects like font size, color contrast, and spacing, helps draw attention to the most important elements first. Meanwhile, information architecture ensures that the overall layout of the product allows users to locate what they need without any confusion. By prioritizing key tasks and features, users can move through the interface more efficiently.

4. Context

Grasping the context in which users engage with your product is crucial for crafting a smooth experience. This principle takes into account situational aspects such as the device in use, the user's location, and their emotional or mental condition. For instance, designing for mobile devices necessitates a different strategy than for desktop interfaces, considering elements like smaller screens and touch interactions. Acknowledging how these factors influence the user's experience guarantees that the design remains pertinent and effective across various situations.

5. User control

User control refers to enabling users to engage with a product in a manner that empowers them, while also incorporating "safety nets" to address potential errors. This principle highlights features such as undo options, intuitive navigation, and the ability to manage the progression of tasks. It helps reduce frustration by allowing users to easily rectify mistakes and oversee their actions within the interface. As Jakob Nielsen points out, this principle encompasses user freedom, providing straightforward methods to recover from errors or unintended actions.

6. Accessibility

Accessibility focuses on making sure that your product is usable by individuals with diverse abilities and in various settings. A skilled UX designer must take into account visual impairments (such as color blindness), hearing challenges, motor difficulties, and even situational disabilities (like using a product in dim lighting). This principle also includes following standards like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure inclusivity. Designs that prioritize accessibility not only enhance usability but also broaden the potential user base by making the product accessible to all.

7. Usability

Usability refers to how easy and efficient it is to use a product. It includes five key factors: Learnability: How quickly can new users get accustomed to the product? Efficiency: How fast can users accomplish their tasks? Memorability: Is the product easy to navigate after not being used for a while? Error Handling: How often do users make mistakes, and how simple is it to recover from them? Satisfaction: Does the product offer a rewarding experience that makes users want to come back? A product with high usability streamlines complex tasks, reduces errors, and fosters a positive user experience that meets or surpasses expectations.

The UX design is a systematic approach to creating user-centered digital products that hit all three qualities: useful (people need it), usable (great quality), and delightful (it brings joy). Is about understanding the overall journey of your users and turning it into a product.

Stages of UXD

Define: the stage where the project begins. Timelines, agendas, brainstorms, meetings and such, are hold in this stage.

Research: getting to know the user and their needs. Whether through surveys or user interviews, in this stage the designers take the time to focus on the user and explore what they actually want.

Create/Designing: once the research is done, and base on that information, the designers begin to sketch, design and create prototypes of the products. Could be low, mid or high fidelity prototypes.

Test: with the product finished, the designers start to test it and see if it meets the user needs. This stage is really important since is where the bugs or improvements are found.

Implement and Launch: after the changes or improvements found in the testing stage are implemented, the product can be launched.

Tasks of a UX Designer

User research

Designs

Creates user personas

Creates prototypes

Testing

Wireframes

Information architecture

https://maze.co/collections/ux-ui-design/ux-design-process/
