The Maya civilization lasted for 3,500 years. It started in 2000 B.C.E and ended in 1500 C.E. When the decline in feudalism was happening the Maya was making an advanced civilization. Some parts of the Maya civilization was inspired by the Olmec people. The `Olmec lived in east of Mexico. Every city-state had a ruler. The ruler would be on the top of the pyramid. The pyramid divided basically by the best to the not so good. The order of the pyramid is the rulers, nobles and priests, peasants, and lastly slaves. The ruler was like king of the city state. The nobles and priests were the only one who knew how to read and write. The peasants were the ones who worked on the land and grew the crops. The slaves they weren't treated as bad as you think. Most slaves were born into slavery which means they parents were slaves so they had to be slaves too. But sometimes free people would become slaves. Sometimes slaves would have it easier then peasants. The peasants all lived in one room. That was not easy because some had children. Most house were around courtyards. The Mayan women would have to burn the fire in the fireplace because they did not have heaters. The daughters would help the Mayan women/moms cook and clean. Mayan dad's ate their breakfast along with their son and would rush to get to work. The Mayans did celebrate birthdays and other things. Men would get married at 20 and women would get married at 14. Women and men did not get to choose each other it was negotiated. They believed in 160 gods. They had a god for everything rain ,corn, death, etc. They believed that the gods made the world so they can destroy it as well. The Maya used their knowledge of math to make a calendar
