Guns are beginning to be more feared by the public and reform surrounding these weapons' distribution is being asked for more and more. 

Not only are weapons dangerous to begin with, but in the hands of someone mentally incapable of bearing such a threatening object, a problem arises; a problem debating who we allow to bear arms. Many mass shootings are caused by people who display mental disorders, such as Jared Lee Loughner who was believed to have had Schizophrenia after the Tuscon, Arizona shooting which left 6 dead and 14 injured. Another shooter, Dylann Roof, was diagnosed with an array of psychiatric disorders prior to his shooting of a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Mental instability and a gun capable of taking lives with the pull of a trigger and a horrifying mix, but they are becoming a common one today with the lack of background checks appointed with the distribution of such weapons.  

Whether or not one has any mental disorders, the intent to kill is a mental issue within itself and the distribution of weapons should be halted to keep them out of the wrong hands, even if that means they are kept out of all hands. These weapons are not a necessity therefore they shouldn't be so available to begin with. They put our very lives in danger. Doing something is better than nothing when it comes to protecting American lives.

The editorial cartoon below provides evidence that gun control is crucial by the means that society is weakened due to the NRA's lack of background checks and a higher toll on the loss of lives. Not only does this cartoon give the message behind the fault in our government's security but the cruel reality that the NRA invests within gun ownership no matter the damage it causes to innocent people. 

The NRA member is painted to be a stereotypical white collar official. Stricter gun control isn't the solution however. 

Chicago is a good example of how gun control is ineffective. Also known as Chiraq, the city is notorious for its gun violence, which is ironic because it has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. This is because of things like the black market, which allows people to get guns without the background checks and restrictions. This shows how gun control is pointless because people who want guns can still get them. If someone wanted to get a gun, they'd get it no matter what restrictions are against them. Gun violence is a problem that can't be solved simply by making them harder to get.  

On top of that, people should be able to defend themselves on the individual basis. The image above provides evidence of the potential fears the lack of self defense due to gun control will create.  If safety is an issue then people should be allowed to have guns to protect themselves from danger. The security of the individual is at risk without their ability to protect themselves.

The family is made to seem like a typical family to appeal to readers' emotions that they could be in the same position.
