This photo was taken in February 2013, when I was 13 years old and in the 7th grade. I'm on the right. God, this was such an awkward age. The girl to my left, Megan, was a friend of a friend and I thought she was the coolest person ever. In hindsight, she might have been my first real crush. But at the time, I just knew she was wayyyy cooler than me. This is weird, because I do not think she was cool now, and I actually really dislike how she treated people, including me. But I was so insecure in myself, her attention felt like a superpower. I was so awkward on my own, I hid in books and writing like the one reading from last week about the ramen noodles. I was trying to be way more mature than I felt, and it made me so uncomfortable. I wish I could reassure this girl that it didn't matter what others thought of her every second of the day. It would save her a lot of heartbreak and exhaustion.
