lots of things led to political unrest, such as Rising Immigration, the Red Scare, fear of Communism, and the Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti. Rising immigration caused political unrest because american citizens's jobs were being taken by immigrants who were undocumented, this allowed companies to hire illegal people to do jobs for a fraction of the cost.
The Red Scare caused political unrest because everyone was "scared"(hence the red scare) of a socialist being in office.

The cold war caused political unrest because it scared our nation due the threat of nuclear warfare

Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was part of a robbery and people were scared that they were commies and exicuted them it is political unrest due to the red scare

Nathan, Cassie, and Coop

1. The Harlem Renaissance contributed to the political unrest in the nation by making the nation more accepting of African Americans and their culture. Such as the contributions of Louis Armstrong in Jazz Music, and Langston Hughes in Poetry
2. The Great Migration brought 6 million African Americans from the south to the north, later causing the Harlem Renaissance because of their culture into society.
3. They got rights they wanted, such as the right to vote, but not all of them. The flappers caused a major change.
4. Alcohol was completely banned by the 18th Amendment throughout the country by prohibition. The crime rate was increased by people continuing to produce and sell alcohol.
5. New heroes like Babe Ruth and Charlie Chaplin threatened the traditional way society was by bringing about new ideas and entertainment.

Each of these things contribute to the Great Depression?

* Stock market speculation - Since stocks were at an all-time high in the 1920s, many people bought stocks in attempts to "get rich quick." Because of this, prices soared higher, tripling by 1929. Unfortunately, if the price fell, the consumer was responsible for the full price. There was not a problem as stock prices got higher, but when they dropped, buyers didn't have the money to cover their losses.

* Rising consumer debt - 1,500 credit companies emerged in the 1920's competing with others and banks to help Americans with easy credit. Consumer spending was allowed to rise faster than income because of this, and led to results such as an enormous increase in consumer indebtedness and a dramatic decline in consumer saving. The whole situation was made much worse because, as soon as the main breadwinner in a family lost his job, 80 percent of families had no savings to fall back on.

* Buying stocks on margin - With the rise in popularity of buying stocks, buying on margin followed along closely. Stocks could be bought for a 10 percent down-payment in the 1920's. This was called a margin. This only caused more debt to pile up on consumers, greatly contributing to the great depression.

* Overproduction of goods - Since the 1920's was a time in which the economy was expanding rapidly, new products like cars, radios, and refrigerators were made and sold by manufacturers. However, many consumers lacked the funds to purchase these goods. Because of this, there were so many goods that could not be sold by manufacturers that they had an abundance of them.

* Federal Reserve policies - The Federal Reserve Bank's main role is to reduce economic swings through controlling the ability of banks to lend money, affecting the money supply. When the economy takes a downturn, the Federal Reserve increases the amount of money in circulation which stimulates spending, production, and employment.

* Shaky banking practices - Many American bankers followed founded banking practices, but, without government regulations, some people invested the money of depositors in shaky investments. Also, banks lent consumers more than they could repay. The U.S. economy became seriously vulnerable because of this over-extension of credit.

1. How does the jim crow laws contribute to the social unrest in the U.S.?
The term Jim Crow refers to the systematic segregation of the black and white races, primarily in the South. Segregation was deemed legal by the Supreme Court in the 1896 Plessy vs. Ferguson Case. The case ruled that segregation was legal and established the "separate but equal" clause. This meant that segregation was legal as long as equal treatment was given to black people in the separate institutions. The fact that this equality rarely existed caused political and social unrest in the 1950's and 1960's.

2. How did lynching in the south contributed to the social unrest in the U.S.?
For the first time in U.S. history, Blacks had the potential to exercise workers' power at the center of U.S. industry, a power they didn't possess as isolated, impoverished and disenfranchised sharecroppers in the south.

3. How did the great migration contribute to the social unrest in the U.S.?
Schafer takes a macro approach to the phenomenon, looking at large economic forces which propelled large numbers of people to act. Schmidt, on the other hand, looks at individual players and actors. In his view, the decisions of millions of individuals must be taken into account in order to tell the larger story. History is not the work of impersonal economic forces, but rather is the action of men and women who make decisions. The Great Migration was the result of many small migrations.

4. How did the "Red
Summer" in Chicago contribute to the social unrest in the U.S?
On July 27, 1919, an African-American teenager drowned in Lake Michigan after violating the unofficial segregation of Chicago’s beaches and being stoned by a group of white youths. His death, and the police’s refusal to arrest the white man whom eyewitnesses identified as causing it, sparked a week of rioting between gangs of black and white Chicagoans, concentrated on the South Side neighborhood surrounding the stockyards. When the riots ended on August 3, 15 whites and 23 blacks had been killed and more than 500 people injured; an additional 1,000 black families had lost their homes when they were torched by rioters.
