He wrote down words to get ideas about her past. He wanted to get into contact with her aunt- Lydia Rose- who brought her up and also her lawyer, Max Berenson. In the chapter he calls Lydia and she answered with, "fuck you" and hung up. When he called Max a receptionist answered the phone on the last ring and after Theo said why he was calling the receptionist answered with, "Oh. I see. Well, Mr. Berenson is out of the office the rest of the week." This chapter is important because it shows Theo's plan for how he is going to help Alicia. He is starting off by getting to know her childhood and the people she interacted with. In chapter 9, Yuri and Theo have a conversation about their wives. Theo does not want to bring his personal life into work and hesitates to give Yuri his wife's name. While talking about them Yuri admitted that he fell in love with another woman. While admitting this, he tells Theo that it was over with his wife. Yuri shook his head and stated, "No. It was over with her. But it took falling for this woman for me to admit." This conversation led to Yuri implying that he thinks Alicia is not ready to face the truth about her marriage. In chapter 10 the background of how Theo and Kathy met is explained. They both had partners at the time but fell for each other. Soon after he proposed to her and she met his parents. They both had partners when they met but it did not stop them. Their relationship moved very quickly. Kathy moved into his apartment in December and they got married in April. I did not expect their relationship to be started as a double infidelity. The segment from the diary is dated July 16th- 21st. She talks about her Friday nights with her husband and how that was their "date night." Alicia asked her husband if she could paint him again and that sparked an argument. He did not want to sit for that long especially since this painting would take days. He finally gave in and sat down for her to paint but he said he was not sitting there for days. This argument allows us to learn what more of their relationship was like. They did not have nasty arguments, they were little bickers of an argument. When she looked at Jesus on the cross she did not see Jesus himself, she saw her husbands face and body. When Gabriel agreed to be painted Alicia got to work painting his body on the cross. She ran into the issue that she could not get the eyes just right. They went to take a break since she got frustrated. Gabriel's solution to that was simply asking for sex. That was how they solved their arguments. By using that they are not actually solving the argument. Theo had Yuri leave the room and close the door while the session was in progress. Their session was going better than the last until Alicia jumped out of her chair. She leaped onto Theo knocking him over, banging his head against the wall repeatedly and started scratching, clawing, and slapping. Her fingers were tight around his neck choking him. Her email opened up to chats with a random man with the username BADBOY22. The emails back and forth contained words that a married woman should not be using with another man. Theo went back to work the next day and had another meeting with Alicia. They seemed to be making progress when Theo pushed her too far and she leapt up starting towards the door. They came up with the agreement that he had to go home, confront and leave her. Once he arrived home he went to confront her but could not find the strength to. She then confronted her about the week since he forgot to put it back in its hiding spot. They had a quick argument and proceeded to go to bed. Laying in the dark, tears ran down Theo's cheeks. The following morning they did their usual routine and once she left for work Theo came to the conclusion that he was not going to let Kathy go and ignore what he saw. We learn that Theo's character is able to get help when he needs it. He is able to be mature about this and not attack his wife for what shes done. They talked about Alicia and how she attempted suicide before but it was never recorded in documents. They did not have a long conversation because Max and his wife had a reservation they needed to get to. These few words almost caused her life to end. We meet new characters like Elif who play an important role in the residency facility they stay at. Max Berenson comes into play and we meet him. He is Gabriel's brother although Max is adopted they were very close. This is important because we get to see how Alicia's relationship was from someone on the outside. Elif, Max, his wife, and the receptionist make their appearance in the story. This is key because we will find out more information about Alicia. We learn that Alicia is not fond of Elif since she tried to kill her. Elif provoked her to do so. We learn that Elif antagonizes Alicia and she might try to do this more times in the story as it progresses.  Theo is smart and is using his resources to gain information about Alicia.
