         <description><![CDATA[<div>Midview High School was able to adopt LCCC’s MEMS program, build a lab on-site at their high school, and now teaching MEMS 122 and ELCT 115 without their students needing to travel to LCCC.</div><div> </div><div>The MEMS at Midview program was designed to engage learners in a pathway with multiple on ramps to employment and post-secondary education in the microelectronic and engineering career fields. Beginning in the 7<sup>th</sup> grade, every student will participate in a two-week FlexFactor SPRINT in the Career Explorations class. In this class they will be introduced to the concepts of micro and flexible electronics and will identify a problem within their career field that needs solved, and will use flexible and micro electronics to create a hardware device to solve their problem.<br><br></div><div>In the 8<sup>th</sup> grade, students will have the opportunity to begin taking Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering classes, which continue to be offered through the 10<sup>th</sup> grade.<strong><em>  </em></strong>Students interested in this pathway will begin their MEMS coursework in the 11<sup>th</sup> grade, but their CCP coursework can begin as early as 7<sup>th</sup> grade.</div><div> </div><div>The MEMS sequence was intentionally built to provide students with the opportunity to earn two certificates from LCCC, an industry recognized credential that will make them immediately employable, and will create an opportunity for them to go immediately into the workforce or to continue at LCCC through the associate and bachelors degree in Microelectronics.</div>]]></description>

Intel's $20 billion chip manufacturing facility in New Albany will create three thousand new job but there may not be enough skilled labor in the current market.  To meet this challenge, the state's higher education institutions are collaborating to train a skilled workforce. This includes creating new programs that boost local talent, enabling the state of Ohio to compete in the global semiconductor industry. </p><p><br/></p><p>Semiconductors are used in many consumer's products like: electronics, cars, and national defense. By equipping students with these skills, high school students can be ready to supply  the demand for workers in high-tech jobs.  Our national economy will benefit by reducing dependence on overseas manufacturing.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This article felt appropriate with the announcement of Intel CEO retiring today and temporarily driving up their stock price.  Moore's Law, the founder of Intel, predicted the number of transistors on a microchip doubles approximately every two years, while the cost per transistor decreases.</p><p><br/></p><p>This prediction seems to be at risk of finally failing due to the current size of microchips is 3 nanometers or the size of a human hair.  The size of microchips might be hard to reduce in size but manufactures are looking for new ways to increase processing power by stacking techniques.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Innovation and evolution will power Moore's Law in the upcoming years.  Plus the demand for smart consumer products, development of AI and the large amounts of funding in the semiconductor markets all lead creating better, faster, smaller microchips. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Before researching solar panels use of semiconductors I was unaware of their use in this product.  I assumed they would be used as a technology tool to communicate the amount of energy consumed to a company or consumer but I was way off.  With a little help of the internet I discovered that semiconductors in solar panels are responsible for absorbing sunlight and converting it into electrical energy. </p><p><br/></p><p>When sunlight strikes the semiconductor material, it excites electrons within the material, knocking them loose. This is called the <em>photoelectric effect</em> and is how solar panels generate electricity.  The sunlight creates a direct current.  The direct current is collected and converted to an alternating current.  Alternative current is what turns on our electricity.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Silicone semiconductors are most often used due to the cost factor.  Silicone is cheaper to produce than the alternative resources.  Innovation in the semiconductor field could lead to alternative ways of making semiconductors and driving down the cost.  This will lead to redefining the cost of solar panel or alternative energy options.  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There are many steps in creating a semiconductor.  The multiple steps of creating a semiconductor into a completed microchip was more than I ever expected.  This process is science in motion and is amazing to know how machines intelligence is critical in all manufacturing stages.   Learning this process makes me think of all the job opportunities that are created  in manufacturing through the semiconductor companies.  High level opportunities for students interested in engineering, science and technology degrees.  Other entry level job opportunities for students not ready to continue post high school academic studies.  Either way students have amazing opportunities in the future with in semiconductor industry.  </p>]]></description>

Otis describes his typical work day, the structure of the 4 days on 3 day off rotational schedule plus his work life balance. While at work Otis highlights the cleanroom conditions and work environment, demonstrating the clean room bunny suit. Otis highlights the need for understanding of science, technology, teamwork, and communication skills. Overall a great video to demonstrate to students what a job in a clean room or manufacturing actually looks like.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The rise of NVIDA and controlling a $3.491T market cap has been amazing to watch.  Like many investor the meteoric rise of NVIDA has everyone watching for the next big tech company in the semiconductor industry to invest in their stock options.   Just today news broke that Amazon is creating servers with their own Trainium chip ad partnering with an AI startup, Anthropic.  This will bring Amazon into the semiconductor business and a new player as they expand their business model.  </p><p><br/></p><p>The fact that their are 133 public traded semiconductor business in the industry and it is still growing speaks to the wave of the future.  This will equate to great investment opportunities, future mergers &amp; takeovers and a growing job market of the future.  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I thought I understood the plans to bring the Intel plant to New Albany, as my brother has lived in Johnstown, OH for over 20 years.  They just sold their family home and downsided due to the new developments in Johnstown and red hot real estate market.  This has all been due to the announcement and breaking ground of the Intel plant.   </p><p><br/></p><p>After reading the article I discovered that their is a potential for six additional "fabs" to be built.  Intel has 1,000 acers of land to utilize in its Ohio One project.   </p><p><br/></p><p>This could be a massive project that brings economic impact to the New Albany area for decades.  Included is the investment in Ohio education to prepare a skilled workforce to fulfill the current job requirements plus grow into the possible expansion.  Understanding the large scale vision of Intel makes me understand the gravity of this project to Ohio and the midwest.  </p>]]></description>
