This would make sense because the sniper was willing to get shot in the arm to kill the other sniper. “He couldn't lift it. His forearm was dead. "I'm hit," he muttered.” Also that when war is going on if someone is on the other side and your a soldier you are expected to kill them even if they are your brother. “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother's face. And the strategy that helped my find that was to infer the authors purpose
