The group learnt new techniques for measuring, finding the centre of the circle, key words such as diameter, circumference and rekindled school days as they used a compass and ruler as to design and bring their creations to life. Safe working, sawing techniques and use of power tools were all centre stage as the animals sprung to life. Today we celebrated International Talk like a Pirate Day with a day crammed full of pirate themed activities - from cooking a colourful tomato and mozzarella pearl pie, making wooden owls (not quite parrots), to taking part in a superb team challenge - to make various pirate artefacts - a 3d cutlass, a hat that fits your head, and a boat that floats, a parrot and a treasure chest. Some fantastic effort and really great way to start the day. With the marrows safely in the oven everyone discussed what types of ovens they had, how they chose them and looked at lots of other alternatives available on the market today.

Resources, tools, costings were all considered, as was the right materials for the job. Some great teamworking and discussion took place to iron out some of the finer details of the construction. The end result looked fabulous.
