The book I chose to read is called “The Everything Box” by Richard Kadrey, and it primarily takes place in Los Angeles. I decided to visit LA in Google Earth (I haven’t been to LA before), and it was quite different than I’d pictured it. I thought it would be similar to NYC or Chicago, with taller buildings and skyscrapers, but much of it was smaller buildings (there were a few skyscrapers), and some almost suburban areas too. I attached one of the pictures I took. Overall, it was a great book and I’d recommend it to anybody who likes sci-fi and comedy, it’s very funny dark humor.

The book I found interesting in the variety of options that the school provided was the book named “Race to the Sun”. And this place that was created as the final destination for the climax of the story was the stunning geographic monument known as “Spider Rock” in the middle of Canyon de Chelly. When the characters arrived at the canyon they saw the Spider Rock and they described it in the quote above, as a towering skyscraper made out of red rocks. But as I searched into the naturally made monument I found out that it was even more magnificent than what has been said in the novel. A towering tower made out of red rocks was true, but what made it really beautiful was the canyon it was in. Multiple pathways of huge ravines that made up the canyon surrounded the rock skyscraper, rolling clouds coming and going, flashing sunlight across the canyon in perfect timing as if it was a fantasy dream! Patches of green and shades of warm colors painted the canyon, birds gliding near spider rock. The 360° view of the canyon and the spider rock in Google Earth really made a better understanding of the settings during those times and enhanced my imagination of what happened there.

The book is written by locals who aim to share the hidden gems of Parisian architecture, food, and art beyond what the majority of tourists see. It introduces structure and navigation of the city to those unfamiliar and encourages tourists to go beyond the obvious spots to visit by allowing them to create their own path during their trip. I went to a few locations that interested me, and I may visit them in person eventually.

(View from L’Institut du Monde Arabe, the World Arab Institute.

The book I had chose to read was Scythe, by Neal Shusterman. This wasn’t a scene at all, rather I chose to draw a symbol (the symbol being the scythe, I just added the person because the scythe looked boring by itself). The person is a representation of the people known as the Scythes, and the scythe they are holding is, well, the name of the book and is also seen on the cover. The blood is easily explained, due to the “killings” they do.
