Zagros (Mountains)
In the foothills of the mountains there was mild weather and rain, good for farming. Nearby there were wooded hills which provided timber for building shelters, and stones for making tools.
Tigirs and Euphrates (Rivers)
The land in the plains was dry and crops could not grow. In the spring the rivers flooded onto the plains and fertilized the land. Unfortunately, the Sumerians did not know when the rivers would flood. In order to control the flooding they created an irrigation system and they all worked together.to keep it functioning properly.
