         <description><![CDATA[<p>My best mistake was creating a game called tik TikTok Math. TikTok math was made up during one of my summer internships. I was a pre-K and K classroom assistant working with professional teachers, and I wanted to be able to help my students do something fun and educational. It was the best mistake because I could think outside the box and incorporate a game as another resource or material to help students grow in their learning, especially in other areas. </p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>It is essential to have relationships with students because you can set boundaries, set examples, and become the lead role they probably never had. Building relationships takes time, courage, and patience. It is a way of interacting, being relatable, and making connections. Students mainly feed off a person's energy; sometimes, that person's energy or spirit could be good or bad. As future teachers, we are created to put a smile on students' faces, allow them to feel welcome, laugh with them, check in with them, and so much more. Lastly, building relationships could also acknowledge the type of environment and/or community in which they are located. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Ajalon Washington&#39;s best mistake</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>During my summer at the Dallas Zoo Camp, I made what I thought was a mistake, but it turned out to be a breakthrough. It was my first time leading a group, and the energy was all over the place. The campers were restless, shifting between anxious and bored, and none of the planned activities seemed to hold their interest.</p><p>Realizing I needed to switch things up, I improvised I had them build bird nests using materials we could find around us. As I watched them carefully construct their nests, something clicked: this group was artistic. Their attention to detail, creativity, and excitement over designing something with their hands were completely different from how they reacted earlier in the day.</p><p>So, I leaned into their strengths. For the rest of the day, every activity centered around arts and crafts drawing animals, making nature-inspired sculptures, and creating zoo-themed collages. What started as a desperate attempt to keep them engaged turned into a transformative experience. I learned that sometimes, the best way to lead is to observe, adapt, and meet people where they are.</p><p>This mistake taught me a valuable lesson: when a plan isn’t working, don’t force it pivot. That day at the zoo camp, I discovered the power of flexibility, creativity, and letting students guide the learning process.</p>]]></description>
