         <description><![CDATA[<div>Key Theorists:<br>Fredrick Taylor<br>Henry Ford<br>Max Weber<br>Henri Fayol<br>Fredrick Hertzberg<br>(Org' Development, 2016) - Book with Clare in it<br><br>Definition:<br>Dominated managerial and organisational thinking at the turn of the 20th century. designed to acheive maximum efficiency, controling large numbers of people from the topand having very clear and pure lines of authority and accountability.<br>(R. Cross, p269)<br><br>Scientific management (Taylorism)<br>Created by Fredrick Taylor this technique breaks down work into smaller tasks measured precisely and designed to maximise efficiency.<br>(Org' Development, 2016) - Book with Clare in it<br><br>Fordism<br>An adapted form of Taylorism with a greater focus on the people element but still heavily enthesises the use of quick to perform simple tasks on an assembly line to maximise efficiency. This was named after inventor Henry Ford who's assembly line was fine tuned to finish one car every 23 seconds showing no single task in the process took longer than this time.<br>(Braverman, 1974)<br><br>Fayol's five functions:<br>Planning/Forecasting - Look to the future and try to predict it.<br>Organising - Building resources, structures and people to meet organisational objectives.<br>Coordinating - Harmonise the structure, resource and people elements of the organisation.<br>Commanding - Giving orders to the people to maintain activity towards goals.<br>Controling - Monitoring work done.<br>(Org' Development, 2016) - Book with Clare in it<br>This can also be simplified visually as: Classic Fayolian management cycle<br>- Planning<br>- Organising<br>- Directing<br>- Controling<br>- Repeat<br>(Braverman, 1974)<br><br>X and Y theory:<br>Theory X assumes that people dislike work and must be coerced, controlled, and directed toward organizational goals. Furthermore, most people prefer to be treated this way, so they can avoid responsibility.<br>Theory Y—the integration of goals—emphasizes the average person’s intrinsic interest in his work, his desire to be self-directing and to seek responsibility, and his capacity to be creative in solving business problems.<br>(HBR, 1970)<br><br>Efficiency definition:<br>Getting more output from the same amount of input<br>(Braverman, 1974)<br><br>Deskilling definition:<br>Losing knowledge and craftsmanship through simplifying a job to work with rational work design.<br>(Braverman, 1974)<br><br>Alienation definition:<br>The ways rational work design impacts workers negatively.<br>(Braverman, 1974)<br><br>Classical school can be seen as having a beurocratic style often with a strong hierarchical structure.<br>(Org' Development, 2016) - Book with Clare in it</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Key Theorist:<br>Elton Mayo<br>Mary Parker Follett<br>Maslow<br>McGregor<br><br>Development of HR started in the 1920's during the industrial revolution.<br><br>Elton Mayo's Hawthorne experiments paved the way for modern day HR.<br>Its aim was to address the limitation of Taylorism and Fordism.<br>It focused on the psycological needs and social needs or workers.<br>McGregors X and Y Theory.<br>Theory X - assumes people dislike work and must be coerced, controlled and dirceted towards organisational goals.<br>Theory Y - the integration of goals. emphasis's the average persons' intrinsic interest in his work. their desire to be seek responsibility and their capacity to be creative in solving business problems. </div>]]></description>
