Throughout the story, Squeaky doesn't quite change her attitude and motives about winning the 50-Meter Dash. But, in the end, when Squeaky had won the 50-Meter Dash, she thought about how she could do other things instead of just running. She also came to respect Gretchen by giving her the realest smile that she could as a sign of respect.
Squeaky goes from only caring about winning and herself to respecting her opponents and learning that running isn't all she has to do.
