Hello my name is Ali. Iḿ the owner and leader of the caravan. My dad Omar and I have travevled the Sahara desert many times so I have now memorized most of routes and where the trading location is. The path the group and I are taking is going to have some difficulties lying ahead. There can be: sandstorms, Warriors from different locations attacking, getting lost, dunes, etc. To get the products the merchatnt are trading we need to go to different locations. The most important products that are going to be traded are going to be salt and gold. Salt can be found in the North of the Sahara and gold can be found South of the rainforest. The two locations are very seperated so that is going to be a very long time we have to travel. Salt is way more important than gold. So we have to be extra careful with it. It has to be carried by camels so it can get to itś location without getting ruined. Some of the workers are scared to travel to very far, but they need to be brave on what lies ahead. So this journey is going to be very long but we will get many things while trading in Morroco.

Before we get on our journey I need to think of the supplies we need to take in order to survive for a long period of time. I need to buy all the stuff so we can get on the journey. I need to take many camels, barrels of water, salt and gold, food, heavy loads of the things we can't carry, oil, cotton . clothing. While we are still traveling to get to our destination we are running out of supplies. My people are getting exhausted of traveling to much. We have been traveling for more than 3 days and are almost running out of supplies. This town has many beneficial things in the tents or in the market. There are fruits, water, cloths, lots of camels, etc. My men are about to get everything but I tell them we need to calm down and get the things that we really need and not just spend money because we want to. Many people are there and it's getting crowded. So we just squeeze our way through. We then head out when we get the things we ran out of, or the things we need to survive the journey. This trading destination has been a very big help. We are prepared for the journey that awaits. It better be good.

Since I am the leader and owner of the caravan I have to pay for the camels, the food, the supplies, and I also have to give the men their first allowance. Some of the men have already spent their money on the things they don’t need. Even though I have to buy everything I still need to save up for the long journey ahead. I need to find some ways to save. So I start talking to Muhammad. I say “ Look I need to learn how to save money for the journey because some of my men keep on spending money on the things they don’t need and they are going to keep on asking for money.” Muhammad then says “ Okay listen up. If they keep on asking you for money you need to say No. They are then going to ask why. Then you say because we need to start saving money for the long journey up ahead”. I tell my men not to ask for more money because we need to save up. So save up so you don’t have to keep asking. My men then understand, so we then start our journey to our destination.

This journey has been so- difficult. There are many things that my men and I don't like. There are dunes, warriors, etc. We have been traveling for more than 7 days now and every step of the way it has been getting harder and harder. I have been told from the groups I have passed that there are going to be Bandits. I guess they are bad people. My men and I are still negotiating about taking a different route, to fight, or just deal with them. This part of the journey is very scary. I was thinking if I take a different and or longer route, it would add time and we could get lost and or die. Those are the negative things. But the beneficial things are we will save money and maybe even save some lives. We end up going a different route so we could stay alive and not get killed. On the different route that we have taken, I have started to regret it. But it was the better choice. We are now safe and ready for the things that lie ahead.

While we are in the storm, I notice that some of my men have disappeared. Some of my food, camels, etc. are missing. I don't know what to tell my men. Will they be mad? Will they be okay with it? I don't know. On the way to the storm I am starting to make my mind know that it will be okay. I then tell tell them " Guys listen up, ummmm some of the men got lost in the storm. Most of the were in charge of the camels, and the food. So they took some of that with them." I saw there faces. Some were mad, some were worried. But I knew they would be mad if I told them the truth so I just didn't. It's so confusing how the men that I have trusted have just vanished. It's like if they were kids that just ran away from their parents. It's just gets me so mad. Like you don't do that, you just don't. We are about to exit the storm which is very good news. I tell my men that and they are very happy. This storm has been very confusing to. Some of my men stole, the storm has been very hard to travel across, sand is getting everyone especially on your face. Which of those ones are the worst? I apparently don't know. The journey getting longer but hopefully it will get better.

There are going to be double the things that were in Morocco. We see many goods lying on tables. I then hear good news and bad news. The good news is that I can hire new men and a new guide for the journey back. The bad news is that the men that stole and abandoned the caravan got attacked and killed by the Bandits known as the Tuareg's. I don't know how I feel about this. Am I sad worried. I don't know. I also don't know if to tell my men when we get back to the destination we once started in, the truth. I don't thing they will be so upset since it happened on the 7-? days. I then get over this and pay for all the things that the men want to buy. some of them buy there own things, and some make me pay everything, which is okay with me. I know that everything is going to be okay on the journey that lays ahead. we leave and go to Timbuktu.

While we are still in Chinguetti we need to get ready for the journey to Timbuktu. We get food, water, cloth, camels, etc. We then leave and are hopefully prepared. This great city has many beneficial things. We can now rest, go shopping yto places we have not gone to shop to. We relax for more than you can imagine. But even though we are relaxing we still need to get ready for the journey across the Nile River to trade. I get up from relaxing and go to the mosque. I give thanks for letting my men and I arrive to this great city safely, although our journey is half way done. This place is more than you could imagine. I have never seen anything like it. There are children running, playing. There are schools. I always wondered what it would be to be a teacher. Would it be good, bad? Would I be happy or would I be sad? Is there a specific language I to learn to be one? I dont Know. Even though I love traveling across the Sahara desert I but I think it would be okay if I just stop and think of something else to do. I tell my men to get up. We have been there for days just relaxing. But it's now time to get up and go to the Niger River to trade.

We get out of Timbuktu and head to our destination, the Niger River. We get on a canoe and head there. This destination is over the top. We see elephants, hippos, crocodiles an another canoe pass by. The other canoe beats a drum to sound that the trading hadn’t began. This kind of trade is called the silent barter. We then put the goods that they want for them to put the things that we want. We want salt and gold. I would prefer gold because for me it’s more important. We then beat a drum for them to give us something for the things we have left. They leave us manynpices of gold for the men and I to get plenty. I have to split the gold with my men to get an equal amount. I keep half of it and split the rest with my men. They also get a good amount for them to buy many things or even trade the things they buy for more money or even better goods. This version of trade has been the easiest because we don’t have to walk to the destination. We could just sail there. I would prefer this trading version than any other

This adventure across the Sahara desert has been very long. We are all bvery tired and are planning to stay in Timbuktu. We are going to that destination so it will be easier to just avoid all the bad things that happened on the journey here. There were sandstorms which was very hard to cross withoiut getting sand all over our selves nad letting some people on our caravan steal. There were bandits. We avoided them but we don't know the location that they are in so we don't want to take the risk. We almost ran out of sup[plies on the journeys to the other locations. We go back to Timbuktu and see all the gfoods. We buy supplies and stay. I ask my men " Who wants to stay?" Only 2 raise there hands. The rest want to stay. Nobody inclding me don't want to take the long journey back. We stay for more than 36 years. That is more years that we spent in our previous location. My men start dying one after the other. I start growing old and I .... This story then passes on and on. Until someone loses it.
