One day a teacher approached me and asked what I wanted to become. My response was unclear and not deep at all. That's when he said, "Whatever you choose, you will make it, I believe in you"

Furthermore, It came to my attention the English language, where I could feel I belonged to. I could improve but I asked myself, what if I reach the top? what if I'm the best or not? I have to do something else.

That's where some colleagues in my class were having difficulties with the foreign language. They were not comfortable having to ask the teacher, as the teacher seemed careless.

I had to explain however I could the English structure and some basic explanations on how to "properly" create a sentence; it felt just astounding. How they came to me instead of the teacher, with happy faces and being grateful.

It's always great to have students open up their eyes and go beyond this world. Make them think about how reality is affecting society. This song has been following me for the past few years, I find it very interesting when it says "Open up your heart, what do you feel?" I feel it refers to instinct, and following one's dreams. Just like I did, following my own dream of teaching.

Why a teacher?

After some explanations, some basic responses, and answers to English questions. I wanted to become better and better to give better answers and provide a "better" comprehension.

Afterward, I said to myself, "Being a teacher is just giving some answers to lost students". Yet, it's more than that, I once had various teachers who taught me, that teaching is more and beyond "simple explanations" it's a long process, satisfactory, and enjoyable. I became interested in the process. I kept trying to find the answer on how this was a long process, rather than some simple answers.

Then, I began giving explanations and comparing those explanations with examples. After exemplifying I related personal stories when giving explanations; then I explained with pictures, with photos, and so on... This gave me a very foolish idea of what could be a teacher, and it seemed nice to me.

I started playing some video games, like RPG, general online games, wiz101, etc... This totally amplified my vocabulary and general skills as every day I was learning new things.

To the point where I saw not only our "student" books were useful to learn English... But other activities, like games, audios, music, the TV, etc... This was the moment I felt comfortable taking English exams. I began with YLE, KET & PET. After some noticeable preparation, playing more games, learning more, and meeting friends on games whom I could talk to I passed those exams, I actually got a pass with "merit" and "distinction" because of "games".

I thought providing the correct sources to learn English, could help your motivation, and progress as well when learning. Then, I just decided to study the career because I loved helping others as well.

A job that requires English...

After entering the Bachelor's Degree in foreign languages, I decided I wanted to do something extra while studying.

This is where my call center journey begins. First, it took place in Teleperformance with a company called Vivint Smart Home, it was about technology, cameras, security, and devices that provide security to a home. I learned that I was still missing something. maybe on how to apply all the vocabulary learned on games to a call.

I decided to make notes, and every day, I made a list of words I had to use and learn appropriately when talking to a customer. At the beginning, it felt like hell. But then, it felt just like a routine.

Because of hard schedules within the university, I had to quit this job, without an alternative of changing schedules (because I didn't know).

Then, I went with Sitel, where I had to talk to customers with diabetes, and health issues. As you can tell, the type of vocabulary utilised isn't very common, but somehow because of games, I knew the majority. The prior, helped me when acquiring information (demographics, customer info, request, etc...)

After some hard work, I had to quit as I found a better job again at Teleperformance, but again; I felt like a slave, I had to answer so many calls, and do so many things at the same time. After they corrected me on so many things and told me I was doing my job "incorrectly", I decided to quit, and try to find a job directly in another country, with different standards, and identities.

I found the place and I'm currently working with them, culture, beliefs, and identities can be different, and I feel belonging to their culture. They have accepted me in different ways; which hasn't been a conflict for me.

After some struggles with my job(s), and after having bad experiences, I received news from people saying being a teacher is just awful because of many things. Because of payment, treatment, feeling, others... I said "Remain calm", every part of being a teacher is worth it. I can make my students at least 1% better every day.

In the end, I can not be more grateful, when helping others and when students just thank me back. Being a teacher is not just grading, or putting some digits on Excel, or a platform. It goes beyond that, it is progress, that is exhausting, yet, it brings culture back, it provides identities to students. This is why I chose this path.
