One fun outdoor activity to teach students turn-taking is "Pass the Ball Relay." In this game, children sit in a circle or line, and a soft ball is passed from one child to the next while music plays. Each student must wait for their turn to receive the ball before passing it along. To make it more engaging, I add challenges like rolling or tossing. If a child gets impatient, I gently remind them, "Your turn is coming soon!"

In our kitchen we have a felt sandwich making work which is a great choice for friendship skills. One child is the waiter, one is the customer. They enjoy practicing their good manners as they serve and saying thank you. Often the customer will get impatient waiting, which is practice in waiting your turn. Sure enough the time comes when we switch and the customer becomes the sandwich maker. I enjoy them enjoying making each other happy:)

We also have a super friends wall. I post pictures of super friends working together and switch them out every few weeks. I laminate the old pictures and we add to our super friends book.

During play there are several opportunities to teach sharing. By having a student ask for a turn or ask if they can use a toy when someone is done with it.

During circle time, before going to areas, we will remind the children that if there is a popular area that many children would like we are able to make a waiting list and get a timer. The children in the desired area know when the timer goes off, it is time to share.

I go over how to share in the beginning go the year while in circle time. My assistant and I use puppets to role play different situations that the children might come across. We then let the children use the puppets to act out situations.

Games and Music and Movement are great opportunities for sharing/turn taking as well as self control. For example, our class enjoys playing hot potato, and the rules of this game place an emphasis on turn taking/sharing. When there are kids who don't want to pass the ball, we use this as a learning opportunity and discuss the importance of making sure everyone gets a chance to hold the ball. Musical chairs provides us with opportunities to learn about self control. We have students who have a difficult time accepting feelings of disappointing and frustration when they don't get a chair, so we teach them coping mechanisms and provide them with alternatives.

Circle time- In the beginning of the year we pass a bean bag around and introduce ourselves. You have to wait until you have the beanbag to say your name. It teaches listening skills and waiting your turn.

during center time, in toys and games, I will do a matching game. The children then take turns selecting cards to find a match. The children usually help each other when another friend is unable to find a match on their own. Board games also work for this. The children need to take turns, show self- control, cooperate, etc

During circle time I used the problem solving boy and to find solutions for problems that arise when interacting with friends. We also read books about friendship and we have the children role play positive interactions.
