Trade all along the Silk Road were, you guessed it, silk, as well as spices, metals, glass, leather, gems, paper and a variety of other exotic items. Along with goods, the Silk Road was responsible for the spread of religion, language, cultures, inventions and new technologies. Emphasis can be placed on how the Silk Road really helped Buddhism take off. Through passing along such ideas and products, from merchants, caravans and various middlemen, the Silk Road had it's dangerous aspects; from the harsh environments traders had to travel through, to thieves waiting on certain paths, the Silk Road was hostile at times, but impacted the development of the Eastern world tremendously.

Its consumption began in order to benefit from its medical properties but soon extended to use for enjoyment. Buddhist influence played a major role in not only the spread of tea, but the appreciation as well. Along similar lines, once tea pots and tea bowls began production, cultural factors such as poems and Buddhist symbols were inscribed. Multiple dynasties in China even attempted to place taxes on tea and tea farmers in hopes that its popularity would bring in more economic growth for the region.

The Java Sea Ship, constructed of iron and wood, was found at its wreckage site approximately 800 years after its sinkage. Setting sail and sinking between the 12th and 13th centuries, archeologists were able to determine these facts by the goods left scattered among the remains of the ship. Built in Southeast Asia it crashed in the Northwestern part of the Java Sea, carrying many goods but including immense amounts of ceramics and iron. During this time period, the Mongols had opened up more trade within China, which then influenced its productions. So much iron is thought to have been found because the Chinese were able to produce iron at a lower cost opposed to other states. Likely sinking because of a storm, the Java Sea Shipwreck was disturbed by looters and fishermen prior to its discovery by the salvaging company it was turned over to. Many artifacts which either diminished, or were taken from the site could have left archeologists with a variety of other clues, but for now this is what we know of the Java Sea Ship.

He contributed to some of the seven fleets of voyages sent during the early 15th century. These fleets were made up of a hundred plus 'treasure' ships in order to extend China's reign. These ships were 2-3 times larger than Columbus' ships, treasure ships being around 190-200 feet long, these were ginormous ships. Muslim at birth, Zheng He did not follow the Confucius stigma against merchants and traders. As a child, he was kidnapped, later earning a place in higher power from his captors, allowing him to have been the well known traveller he went on to be. Zheng He contributed to trading advancements possibly as far as Africa as well as the settling who would rule what land pertaining to foreign Chinese land. He is still praised and celebrated at some festivals to date.
