It is the most emblematic element in the cathedral.
The tower is the only tower in the cathedral that was a watchtower. It is 37 meters tall or 121 feet. The top 3 floors have windows with single arches.
The main chapel is made up of the polygonal apse and two lateral chapels. 
The dome is decorated with fan vault and many angles.

This church is associated with the legend of the siege of Zamora. 
The surrounding countryside is called the field of truth.
In this field occurred the violent death of King Sancho the 2nd.  
This temple is small and its exterior is of simple dimensions. 
Saint James of the Knights belongs to the Olivares neighborhood.
(El) Cid was knighted here.
This church is also known as: Thrashing plot of Saint James  (and) Old Saint James

At first it was a castle then it was a school until they discovered it was a palace. 
In the far side of the city it dominates the river and the surrounding countryside. The fortress is located where the first part of the construction began during the ties of Alfonso the 3rd.
At the end of the twelfth century in the Kingdom of Alfonso the emperor and Fernando the 2nd it was built as we see it today.

  1. The original walls are here and the original door is there. (Lucia is referring to the the old wall that used to end where she stands. When the plaza mayor was built it was torn down. A new wall was constructed where she indicates that the door was, it was the entry gate.
  2. In this space markets and fairs took place. 
  3. This church was built before plaza mayor. (The wall that Lucia referred to in the 1st slide was just behind this church. 
  4. According to the laws of Toledo, every (Castilian town) Castilla y León must have (at least) one church. 
  5. In the year 1484 the construction of (this) the old town hall begins. 
  6. This is an important street that have Zamora. Balborraz was an important street that you can eat, sleep and (has) something to buy.
  7. A manifestación (Spanish) — protesters.  Isaac says (Spanish): igualdad, que no suban tanto los impuestos y que hayan nuevos empleados.    (They are asking for equality in the workplace, that taxes do not increase and that more jobs.)—This took place May 1st- Labor day in Spain and most of Europe. 
  8. Herreros is an important street because we have many bars that a person can really love. 
  9. This street is famous because you can eat tapas that you don´t (if you don´t) have many(much) money.  This is one example. 
  10. This street is very famous in Zamora because every (all) year person walks here. You can buy in the (many shops) shopping.  (This street is called Santa Clara, it is a pedestrian only street. During the day it is quite busy as it is the main through road to all the shops for food, post office, in general all the daily visited shops. In the evening it is packed with people walking up and down dressed very nicely and stopping to talk with friends.)
  11. This is the market of Zamora. (In this market there are stalls where vendors sell cheese, meat, fish, poultry, cured meats, vegetables and fruit. ) See the website with pictures below:

  1. The people are running next to the river. It is a beautiful river. 
  2. The river has risen and has cut off the trail. (We have been suffering some flooding lately due to the increased amount of rainfall. This winter was a snowier year than usual so there is a lot of snow melt running downstream. 
  3. It is a river, it is very dirty, it is the Duero. (Due to the flooding there is a lot of vegetative debris and mud in the river. 
  4. This is locks of love. 
  5. (It was built )In the 13th century and has undergone a number of reforms.
  6. There was a bishop that threw his ring into the river. (Click here to read the legend in Spanish, no English version available)
  7. These are the aceñas (water mills), cathedral and castle. 
  8. Until the 20th century the 2 towers were here and here.  (Originally there were 2 towers at either end of the bridge. Each had gates for protection of the city and to tax merchants that came to sell their goods in the fairs and markets. )
  9. Here Isaac describes in Spanish what happens during the fiestas of Zamora. It is the Saint day of Zamora (every town has a Saint—that protects it). To start the festival, giant headed characters and giants come dancing across the river to leave the key on the street lamp at the end of the bridge.)
