The colony was founded by John Smith, and it was founded mainly for profit by the joint-stock of London and territorial claims (tobacco was the main crop, they had most of it). 

Virginia colony had a constitutional monarchy, which was when a monarch shares power with a constitutionally organized government. But, with them coming to Virginia for-profit and wealth, they didn't farm for themselves, instead, they became dependent on Native Americans for food. Eventually, Captain John Smith thought it was best to treat the natives like the Spanish treat them. So, by 1609, Powhatan, leader of tribes around this area, decided it was best to attack the settlers, kill their livestock, and burn their crops. But, the colonist then returned these acts by burning the Native villages and the crops. There was a truce that was made and they stopped the cruelty against each other. 

When John Rolfe married Pocahontas, Powhatans' favorite daughter, it helped the relations between them. When Powhatan and Pocahontas died, it fastened malevolence.
